ATV event brings 2,400 riders up Mount Washington

By Terry LeavittAn estimated 1,200 ATVers plus their passengers didn't let a little rain stop them Saturday on the Auto Road. (JAMIE GEMMITI PHOTO)PINKHAM NOTCH — Despite a cloudburst that kept riders in their ponchos, the annual ATV ride up Mount Washington Auto Road went off without a hitch Saturday, with 1,200 all-terrain vehicles taking about 2,400 off-road enthusiasts up the 7.6-mile road to the summit of New England's highest peak. It was the 18th year for the Gerry Pomerleau Memorial Ride, put on by the Auto Road and the New Hampshire ATV Club. Despite the typically challenging Mount Washington weather, Auto Road Marketing Director Crispin Battles reported a successful event. He added that the Auto Road will consider expanding the ATV event to a second day next year but that no decision has been made at this point.
