ACCCIM expresses faith in Bank Negara as ringgit falls further

The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) said pressures on the ringgit came from a convergence of factors. These include a strong dollar, compressed yield differential due to policy uncertainties with regards to new US president-elect Donald Trump's economic plans as well as negative perceptions and sentiments about Bank Negara Malaysia's ringgit stabilisation measures. "Too excessive volatility, if not promptly contained, would dampen domestic business and consumer sentiments," said ACCCIM in a statement. ACCCIM is the national level organisation of the Chinese chambers of commerce in the country. It went on to say that "Malaysia's economic and financial fundamentals remained strong amid some macro weaknesses, which the government is addressing".
