The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) assured Congress on Tuesday that it would grant ABS-CBN Corp. a temporary permit to allow the network to continue its operations when its franchise expires in May. Cordoba, however, clarified that the commission might issue the permit after network’s franchise expires on May 4, 2020. During the hearing, the House panel approved a resolution adopting the letter enjoining NTC to grant ABS-CBN a provisional permit. The Senate also approved a similar resolution, Senate Resolution 40, expressing that ABS-CBN may operate beyond the franchise expiration. In the quo warranto petition, Calida assailed the legality of ownership and transfer of shares of ABS-CBN Corp. and ABS-CBN Convergence.
