A mayor reportedly said her city isn’t ready for black leader. A council member went further.

Mayor Theresa Kenerly, (left) and City Councilman Jim Cleveland sit during a city council meeting at the Hoschton Historic Train Depot in Hoschton, Ga., on Monday, May 6, 2019. The mayor of the mostly white north Georgia city is being criticized for comments attributed to her that the community isn't ready to have an African American city administrator. Numerous calls to Hoschton City Hall were not returned Tuesday. Council members said the mayor claimed she was “looking out” for Henry because the city has a small minority population. People packed into a scheduled city council meeting Monday, according Fuller, in an “icy” standoff with Kenerly and Cleveland.
