(Mohammed Shahid was my hero, Kapil Dev to India Today)Shahid rose to prominence after India won an Olympic Gold medal in Moscow (1980). Those were also the days when slowly, but surely, Indian hockey was losing steam with the shift to astro-turf from natural surface. I saw Shahid play in flesh and blood in his home town in Varanasi. I also saw Shahid play in the Asian Games (1986) against Thailand.
