MANILA, Philippines — Seven Las Piñas policemen accused of extortion surrendered on Wednesday night, more than a week after the city police’s entire drug enforcement unit was relieved. The policemen – all anti-narcotics operatives – were accompanied by their lawyers and their respective relatives, police noted. The suspects said Ligutan was arrested for drug possession in Las Piñas. Police officers from Silang, Las Piñas and Parañaque staged a sting when Shelane agreed to hand over P30,000 to the anti-narcotics unit’s “striker,” a 13-year-old boy. The case led to the removal of Senior Superintendent Marion Balonglong as city police chief as well as six members of the anti-narcotics unit, including its head, Senior Inspector Edgardo Tigbao.
