$25-a-day child care coming to 18 Alberta daycare centres

Alberta's NDP government is introducing a $25-a-day daycare program at 18 centres in the province, creating up to 1,000 new child spaces and 230 new jobs. "We will be in a position to implement a maximum of $25-a-day child care as the province's finances permit." Terri Butler's five-year-old son has been attending the child care centre at MacEwan University for a year. There were 109,500 licensed and approved child care spaces in Alberta as of March 2016. Instead of introducing a province-wide school lunch program, Notley announced a $3.5-million pilot program for 14 publicly-funded school boards.
