Elizabeth MacPherson, who was a VON nurse, had been in a relationship with Rushton since 1998. Rushton acknowledged that saying he is sorry and remorseful "seems like such an empty statement" in comparison to his conduct. On the morning of the killings, Rushton and Brittany MacPherson got into an argument.
