‘No question that Mr. Vader committed homicide’: Second degree murder verdict in deaths of McCanns

The trial has heard police found Vader’s DNA, blood and fingerprints in the SUV as well as blood spatter from the McCanns. Another defence witness testified Vader was at her Edmonton home on the afternoon of the day the McCanns were allegedly slain. He also dismissed defence evidence of witnesses seeing the McCanns after they were believed slain and placing Vader elsewhere. He also argued DNA evidence placing Vader inside the SUV is sketchy at best and doesn’t prove anything more than Vader was at one time near the vehicle. Drops of Lyle McCann’s blood, which were found on his hat, could have come from the nosebleeds to which the man was prone, he said.
