‘Mass casualty response’ after multi-vehicle pile up on Ontario highway leads to chemical spill

Emergency personnel were initiating a “mass casualty response” after a multi-vehicle collision led to a chemical spill on Highway 401 near Brockville on Tuesday, closing the freeway between Lansdowne and Mallorytown. “This event has been upgraded to a haz-mat and Mass Casualty Response. Chemical has spilled on roadway and is highly toxic,” said police. “One of the involved transports is leaking a toxic substance, as a precaution the area is being evacuated,” said OPP Const. An emergency response in TLTI, led by the township’s “community control group,” was initiated around 3 p.m. as emergency responders were on site and coordinating a medical response.
