Further pressure is mounting on Met chief Dame Cressida Dick after it emerged bosses at Scotland Yard missed three crucial clues about killer cop Wayne Couzens that could have seen him kicked out of the force before he murdered Sarah Everard. The force previously told the Sun on Sunday: 'We are not able to respond to queries such as this while proceedings are ongoing.' A source told the Sun on Sunday newspaper: 'It is frightening when you think about what happened to poor Sarah. In total, Couzens had been accused of indecent exposure three times before he abducted Miss Everard in Clapham, south London, on March 3. She said that she had told the Everard family 'how very sorry I am for their loss, for their pain and their suffering'.

A former bank manager and a police officer have been arrested in connection with the controversial case of selling a 15-year-old girl online for sexual exploitation, Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated. So far, more than 30 suspects have been arrested in connection with this case, following investigations launched by the Colombo Child & Women Bureau of Sri Lanka Police last month. The perpetrators had posted several advertisements online and sold the teen to third parties for a period of three months. Over a dozen of the suspects in custody had procured the girl for sexual exploitation, according to the law enforcement authorities.

An internationally recognized digital certificate has been introduced for individuals who have received both doses of the vaccination for COVID-19. The digital card was developed by the Ministry of Health and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) under the State Ministry of Digital Technology and Entrepreneurship Development. The application form for the Smart Digital Vaccine Certificate can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Health by all Sri Lankan citizens who have received both doses. The digital vaccination card contains the name, age, National Identity Card (NIC) number of the person who received the vaccine, the dates of vaccination, the type of vaccine, and the batch number. The Digital COVID-19 Vaccination Card is issued by the Government of Sri Lanka and its uniqueness lies in its ability to verify the accuracy from anywhere in the world through the QR Code.

The Nawagamuwa Police has arrested a woman who has allegedly committed financial fraud by promising employment opportunities in Japan. The arrest was made following investigations which were carried out after facts were submitted to the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court. Accordingly, the woman was arrested yesterday (10) in the Batewela area in Nawagamuwa. Further, it has been revealed that 32 cases have been filed against the suspect in several courts and 17 arrest warrants have been issued on her. She will be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today (July 11).

A consignment of two million doses of the Sinopharm anti Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (11). As mentioned by State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof Channa Jayasumana yesterday (10), the consignment arrived on board two SriLankan Airlines charter flights. This is the single largest consignment of vaccines to be received by the country so far. In addition, another 1.4 million doses of AstraZeneca will arrive within the third week of July while another stock of Sputnik V will, too, arrive within the month. Sri Lanka has received a total of 6.57 million COVID-19 vaccine doses so far, the Army Chief said.

Tecno’s first entry into the premium market, the Phantom X, got a vote of confidence in last week’s poll. The phone didn't escape criticism, though. Another two million doses of the China-manufactured Sinopharm medicine have arrived in Sri Lanka early this morning (July 11). The consignment arrived in two Sri Lankan Airlines charter flights at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). Meanwhile, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, joining TV Derana Breakfast Show ‘Derana Aruna’ said that another 02 million of the Sinopharm vaccine is due to be received within the month of July. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has won the country’s delayed elections with an overwhelming majority, the election board said on Saturday. The board said Mr Abiy’s Prosperity Party won 410 out of 436 seats, giving him another five-year term in office. Mr Abiy, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, described the vote as a “historically inclusive election” in a statement on Twitter. Berhanu Nega said his party, Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice, had filed more than 200 complaints after observers in a number of regions were blocked by local officials and militiamen. In May, the EU accused Ethiopia of failing to guarantee the independence of its election.
