Brown bears feast on giant cauliflowers, cabbages and pumpkins
Footage shows the brown bears at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage enjoying prize-winning cabbages, cauliflowers and pumpkins from fair. This year, the first place pumpkin weighed 727.3kg (over 1,603lb) and the winning cabbage weighed in at 39.08kg (more than 86lb). Every year, organizers generously offer up to 450kg (992lb) of the remaining vegetables to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to feed their six bears - which eat an average of 14kg (31lb) of produce per day. Brown bears tend to be solitary animals and are typically found in the forests and mountains of North America, Europe, and Asia. The bears will spend the winter months dormant in their dens and will feed on the body fat they have built up over the summer and autumn months.

Huawei Watch Fit New coming to Europe next month
Huawei is planning to release a refreshed version of its Watch Fit smart wearable, named Watch Fit New. The company has already set up a landing page for the device in Germany along with a specs sheet that seems identical to the original Watch Fit. However, according to popular tipster @rquandt, the new smartwatch/smartband hybrid will come with NFC, which is listed as not supported on Huawei's website. Roger Hunt was a member of England’s 1966 FIFA World Cup-winning squadFormer Liverpool striker Roger Hunt, a member of England’s 1966 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, has died at the age of 83. Liverpool confirmed the passing of Hunt, who is the club’s second-highest goal-scorer of all time with 285 goals in 492 appearances. The club has said Hunt died peacefully at home following a long illness on Monday (27). Hunt scored 18 goals in 34 appearances for England, including three goals at the 1966 FIFA World Cup. He scored England’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Mexico, before scoring both goals in a repeat score-line against France as the group stage of the competition concluded.

Govt. to attract aviation companies to Mattala
By Imsha IqbalThe Sri Lankan Government is seeking to attract aviation companies to the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) which was once dubbed as the “world’s emptiest airport”, by providing discounts and tax relaxation. The airport immigration tax is anticipated to be released from the date of inauguration of the operations by the international aviation companies for a period of two years, as in terms of encouraging the aviation companies to reach Mattala Airport. Further discounts are to be awarded to the aviation companies on landing and parking charges for the airplanes for the next four years. These offers were announced by the Government despite the prevailing pandemic, where aviation restrictions are still in place in many countries. MRIA is the second international airport in Sri Lanka which was formerly known as Hambantota International Airport (HIA), while the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) serves as the first in the country.

Microsoft starts testing xCloud integration on Xbox consoles
Microsoft is starting to test its Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud) integration with Xbox consoles today. Some Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings will be able to access the xCloud integration today, a feature that lets you click play on an Xbox Game Pass game and stream it immediately. xCloud integration in the Xbox dashboard. Microsoft will support 1080p 60fps streams of games through this integration, just like the regular web streams of Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft has promised xCloud integration will appear on all Xbox consoles by the end of the year, which will mean the Xbox One will be able to eventually stream Xbox Series S / X exclusive games like Microsoft Flight Simulator and The Medium.

Lankan-Indian Navies to discuss trespassing today
BY Dinitha RathnayakeA high-level meeting between the regional Naval Commanders of Sri Lanka and India is to be held today (29) focusing on trespassing Indian fishermen engaging in the destructive practice of bottom trawling and on joint efforts undertaken by the two Navies. The Sri Lankan delegation will be led by Northern Naval Commander Priyantha Perera while the Indian Navy delegation will be led by a Naval Commander in Chennai. The SLN has arrested at least 54 Indian fishermen and seized five trawlers for allegedly poaching in the country’s territorial waters recently. The two vessels had trespassed into Sri Lankan waters about 62 nautical miles, crossing the IMBL when the apprehension was made. Bottom trawling carried out by Indian fishermen in mechanised trawlers is classified as an Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) method by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

No plan yet to vaccinate all children over 12

No decision yet on lockdown status in October

Accordingly, the President will announce as to whether the lockdown will be lifted or extended, within the course of today or tomorrow,” he noted. Taking into account the rapid spread of Covid-19 and the increase of the number of Covid-19 deaths in the country, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, on 20 August, declared a lockdown status, which has subsequently been extended on multiple occasions, with the latest extension being till 4 a.m. on 1 October 2021.

The steps to be taken by the CBSL include carrying out campaigns on mainstream and social media to apprise the public about prohibited schemes with the warning to avoid such schemes. Accordingly, the conducting of investigations into pyramid schemes and referring the findings that suggest pyramid schemes to the Attorney General’s Department for prosecution, will also be encouraged. Pyramid schemes have been made illegal in Sri Lanka in view of the potential danger they pose to the economy and any funds earned by promoting pyramid schemes are liable to seizure and forfeiture, in the event such funds are used for the offences of money laundering or for financing terrorism. Many illegal pyramid schemes are fast spreading across Sri Lanka, even during the Covid-19 pandemic period. A pyramid scheme is defined by the CBSL as a scheme under which a person makes a payment to get the right to recruit others into the scheme for which he receives an income.

Detained poet’s mother writes to PTA Board
BY Pamodi WaravitaDetained poet Ahnaf Jazeem’s mother has submitted a written representation to the Advisory Board of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979 as amended (PTA), requesting his immediate release, Jazeem’s legal representative, Attorney-at-Law (AAL) Sanjaya Wilson Jayasekera, told The Morning yesterday (28). On 25 August, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed an Advisory Board, under Article 13 of the PTA, to which any person under a detention order under the PTA may make representations. Presidential Secretariat Director General of Legal Affairs and AAL Harigupta Rohanadeera has stated that the Advisory Board is due to provide recommendations on 46 detainees. A number of local and international organisations, including Amnesty International, have condemned this arbitrary arrest and called for the poet’s immediate release.
