The American space agency NASA has released the clearest image ever of the edge of a black hole. This supermassive black hole is located in the Circumstellar galaxy, 13 million light-years from Earth, and is constantly emitting radiation into space. The clouds of hot gas surrounding this black hole are very bright, which made it impossible to obtain details about it in the past. Now NASA has used the James Webb Space Telescope to image the strange and powerful forces at the edge of the black hole. Against this backdrop, the Islamabad Declaration sends a powerful message: regional challenges require regional solutions, and fragmented responses are no longer sufficient. Through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan has transformed painful national experiences of floods, earthquakes and climate shocks into institutional knowledge and technological capacity. The initiative to develop child-friendly educational material on disaster preparedness is a forward-looking investment in the region’s future. Federal Minister Dr. Musadiq Malik rightly observed that climate disasters are no longer distant threats but present realities. The Islamabad Declaration reflects this urgency and translates it into a roadmap for collective action.

This imbalance shapes public perception, fosters pessimism, and obscures the enormous potential of Pakistan’s youth. While this is a moment of pride, it is also telling that stories like Dr. Ibrahim’s are rarely highlighted in mainstream Pakistani media. Furthermore, highlighting successes is not just about national pride. More importantly, it exemplifies the talent that exists within the country—a talent that can secure Pakistan’s scientific and technological future if nurtured. By balancing coverage of problems with recognition of accomplishments, the country can foster a culture of pride, motivation, and progress.

Plans to mass-convert to EVs may run up against the bitter reality that while there might be the generation capacity, the distribution network is in bad shape. While EVs are much cheaper than ICE vehicles to run, there is the problem of resale value. In other words, such vehicles do not have any resale value. Both two-wheelers and four-wheelers here have a resale value which makes them seen as stores of value, representing a substantial portion of the family savings. The prospect opens up of used EVs crowding landfills or garbage dumps, and new ones filling up dealers’ lots.
