Tata Brings Punch EV Facelift At Rs 9.69 lakh
Pune : Tata Motors, India’s biggest maker of electric cars, on Friday introduced the updated Punch.EV, the electric subcompact SUV priced at Rs 9.69 lakh at the Mumbai showroom. Punch.EV customers also have the option of the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, under which the EV costs Rs 6.49 lakh, while battery usage is charged at Rs 2.6 per km. Tata also offers a smaller 30 kWh version, which has an ARAI-certified range of 365 km. The electric motor has a peak output of 127 BHP, which allows the EV to sprint from 0-100 km/h in under 9 seconds. Tata Motors is offering a lifetime unlimited-kilometer warranty on the battery pack.

Army arrests Boko Haram suppliers and recovers arms
Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI have intensified operations against Boko Haram in Adamawa and Borno states, arresting collaborators, neutralising insurgents, and seizing weapons and drones used to attack security forces. In a separate operation in Madagali Local Government Area, troops “neutralised a terrorist commander, Abdullahi Mafa, during an ambush operation around the Visik River line,” recovering “an AK-47 rifle as well as a loaded magazine” from the insurgent. Acting on further intelligence, the statement said troops also arrested 64-year-old Dauda Usman Gubula, described as a “terrorist collaborator and drone supplier responsible for supplying drones to the terrorists, which are subsequently locally armed and used against troops.”Items recovered included “two aerial drones, drone accessories and 20 solar power banks,” highlighting the insurgents’ increasing use of technology in attacks. Elsewhere in Borno State, OPHK troops, working closely with local vigilantes and the Civilian Joint Task Force, “repelled insurgent activity in Ngamdu and neutralised a terrorist informant attempting to breach defensive positions.”Logistic items were recovered during these operations. The statement emphasised that all actions form part of “sustained efforts to disrupt Boko Haram supply lines, restore security, and protect communities across the North-East region.”The Military High Command commended the troops for “their sacrifices and dedication in the fight against terrorism in the North East region,” urging them “to sustain the operational tempo.”

How Nigerian attempted to defraud 1,000 Americans of $8m – Report
The United States Department of Justice has detailed how a Nigerian, Matthew Akande, attempted to defraud more than 1,000 Americans of $8.1m through a fraudulent tax return scheme. According to the statement, Akande, 37, was based in Mexico prior to his arrest at Heathrow Airport in October 2024. “Akande used the RAT malware to obtain the PII and prior-year tax information of the firms’ clients, which he then used to file fraudulent tax returns seeking refunds. “In total, Akande and his co-conspirators filed more than 1,000 fraudulent tax returns seeking over $8.1m in fraudulent tax refunds over approximately five years. He was later extradited to the United States and arraigned before a federal court in Boston.

Naira hits two-year high amid rising foreign inflows
The naira has strengthened sharply in recent weeks, reaching one of its strongest levels in nearly two years, even as rising foreign portfolio inflows increase the risk of investor profit-taking later in the year, according to a macro update by CardinalStone. The disparity, the report said, reflects “material improvements in the FX market that reduced speculative demand and routed most corporate FX requirements to the official window”. On the foreign portfolio investment side, the analysts warned that continued currency gains could trigger portfolio rebalancing by foreign investors. “Nigeria’s carry trade remains one of the most compelling across EM and frontier markets, continuing to attract sizable foreign portfolio inflows. Such a gain could potentially increase the risk of foreign portfolio exits, especially considering a likely build-up in uncertainties ahead of the general elections,” said the experts.

FG defers 70% of 2025 capital budget to 2026

The move follows a directive to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to comply strictly with procurement rules in the execution and payment of capital projects under the extended 2025 budget cycle. The Minister of State for Finance, Mrs Doris Uzoka-Anite, gave the directive during a stakeholders’ meeting on the implementation of the extended 2025 Capital Budget held at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja. The statement read, “Dr Ogunjimi explained that 30 per cent of the 2025 Capital Budget will be implemented between now and 30 November 2026, while the remaining 70 per cent has been rolled over into the 2026 Capital Budget to ensure seamless implementation, in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu. The circular stated that only 30 per cent of the 2025 capital budget would be released within the year, while the remaining 70 per cent would form the basis of the 2026 capital budget, replacing the traditional rollover approach.
