India’s capital bans fireworks to curb air pollution
The Indian capital, Delhi, has imposed a complete ban on the manufacturing, storage, sale, and use of fireworks until January 1, 2025, in an effort to combat severe air pollution. Jonestone told the woman’s story to illustrate the lethality of slow poison. The way petrol price daily moves up the spiral staircase feels like Madame Marie’s poison. The Nigerian house is damp and dank.

Alleged kidnapping, organ harvesting: Many killed, police station set ablaze by protesting youths in Edo
This was even as the police station in the area, alongside vehicles in the station, was set ablaze by irate youths who claimed the police were providing cover for the suspected hoodlums. The people claimed that the criminal elements were kidnapping and killing people in the area for suspected organ harvesting, hence their protest. The infuriated youths dug out the decomposing body of a young man in the compound of the community leader, who it was gathered, reportedly fled with his family. It was also learnt that while the youth were digging the compound, several bones believed to be those of humans were recovered. In anger, the youths were said to have burnt down the building and then the business centres of several people, killing some of them, before storming the police station to set it ablaze.

Enugu varsity raises lecturers’ minimum qualification to PhD
Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) in Enugu has announced an increase in the minimum qualification for its lecturers to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), effective from the 2025-2026 academic session. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Christian Anieke, made the announcement on Friday during a “Spiritual Retreat” organised for academic and senior administrative staff. He stated that the university management would not tolerate absenteeism from lectures by lecturers. In her remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. MarySylvia Nwachukwu, expressed concern over the low attendance to lectures by teachers during the first week of academic resumption. The spiritual retreat was attended by principal officers, professors, heads of departments, and directors from the university and its affiliated institutions.

Between rising external reserves and frustrating economic challenges
The recent growth of Nigeria’s foreign reserves has come to many as some form of cheery news. In as much as this is a positive development, it is disappointing that this has not helped to stabilise the country’s foreign exchange market, as would be expected. Hardly has any citizen escaped the effect of this negative development in the foreign exchange market. While these steps are laudable, the core issues for a reliable foreign exchange supply need to be investigated meticulously. More work needs to be done, to bring sanity to this all-important foreign exchange market, in the interest of the ordinary Nigerian.

The Ofokutu Royal Family of Ilesa, Osun State, has said it is their turn to produce the next Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland. The spokesperson of the Ofokutu Royal Family, Prince Olayide Adeyemi Adurodolorun, explained that the Ajimoko Royal Family had produced Owa twice and a regent once. He added that a member of the Ofokutu Royal Family had only ascended the throne once. He claimed that some members of the Ajimoko Royal family have been going round to lay claim to the stool. Within the Bilaro family, it is the turn of the Ofokutu Royal Family to produce the next Owa Obokun of IjeshaLand.

Indian ex-minister shot dead in Mumbai
A senior politician in India’s financial capital Mumbai was shot dead on Saturday, weeks ahead of key state elections, with police probing the role of a notorious crime gang. Baba Siddique, 66, a local lawmaker and former minister in Maharashtra state, was shot multiple times in the chest outside his son’s office in Mumbai, Indian media reported. Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, from the same party as Siddique, said he was “shocked” by the “cowardly attack”. Meanwhile, in 2023, in Uttar Pradesh, India, Atiq Ahmad, a politician with over 100 criminal cases, was shot dead on live TV while being escorted by police for a medical checkup. Fighting corruption spiritual, not by guns, Primate Ayodele tells EFCC boss
The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has admonished the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyode to go spiritual in the fight against corruption in Nigeria. He explained that corruption is a fraternity in Nigeria and can’t be fought using guns, law, and technology. To fight corruption, you must be highly spiritual; it can’t be fought with technology. He commended the EFCC chairman for being passionate about fighting corruption but warned him to be prepared so that corruption would not fight back and indict his office. The EFCC chairman will only do his best but the powers will frustrate him and not make him excel as he wants.

Group kicks against Lagos Assembly’s alleged moves to undermine LG autonomy

Dangote crude oil production begins 2025 – Official
Amid feedstock challenges, the Dangote Group, owners of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, will commence crude oil production in the first quarter of next year. The official noted that development would further ensure crude oil supply to the plant, stressing that efforts were ongoing to achieve this based on the target date. When probed to tell the cost of a litre of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, produced by the Dangote refinery, the source declined. “I’ll tell you that (PMS price) next time, but know that crude oil production by Dangote is starting in the first quarter of next year,” the official stated. The other stakeholder in West African E&P is Nigerian upstream player, First E&P, which operates OMLs 71 and 72.

Scholars commend Sultan for fostering national unity, crusade against terrorism
