PHOTO: FELICITY DEARA sex offender said he continued to view child exploitation material and violent non-consensual material because he was "bored and lonely". After committing a qualifying offence in 2017, Meadows was registered as a child sex offender for life. An extended supervision order is a measure used to monitor and manage only the most high-risk offenders, and Meadows was subject to it for the maximum 10 years. He explained he had also received child exploitation material from others, which he would watch then delete because he felt "dirty". Once released, the extended supervision order would continue and Meadows would be in supportive, supervised accommodation.

That is because the community-owned Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT) has exclusive trading rights for taverns, hotels and off-licences in the city. Resources Minister Shane Jones released a minerals strategy document with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on Thursday afternoon. It proposed a plan which could help to grow the extractive industries in New Zealand through a stocktake on known mineral potential and relaxation of the consenting regime. The minerals sector exported just over $1 billion in 2022 and Jones hopes to see that number double by 2035 — which would require an annual growth rate of 7.2% each year. In a speech, Jones said New Zealand had a rich history of mining and the sector had played a significant role in how the country has developed over the past 200 years. “Shane Jones has said multiple times that he doesn’t care if a mine destroys habitat of native animals like kiwi or Archie’s frog,” she said.

Newshub and Stuff have come together – the market provided a solution. A report from the AUT’s Journalism, Media and Democracy Research Centre found that general trust in news media and media brands continued to erode in 2023-24, from 42% to 33% . Merja Myllylahti, a co-author of the report, noted that journalism “has lost its authority as the main source of news and information. The pandemic-related Public Interest Journalism Fund, rightly or wrongly, added to the perception that the mainstream media was captured by government funding. But Newshub and Stuff have now come together – the market provided a solution, as indeed it should.

Review: Goth 2 A Flame, the new musical comedy act by Jemaine Clement and Jonny Brugh, shares the same magic that made Flight of the Conchords world famous. Twenty-eight years ago, Jemaine Clement first performed at Wellington’s BATS Theatre alongside Bret McKenzie in the comedy troupe So You’re a Man. The two would go on to form the band Flight of the Conchords, arguably New Zealand’s greatest comedy export. Similar to Conchords, the characters are earnest but dim-witted musicians, and the humour comes from their awkward, unaware songwriting. During the second song, Clement couldn’t get his guitar playing through the amp.

The founder of one of the world's leading anti-gang initiatives has criticised the New Zealand Government's approach to the issue —encouraging a solution that addresses the root causes of gang membership. "Gang violence everywhere is about a lethal absence of hope. "If you can infuse hope to young people for whom hope is foreign, then you really do quite a bit in terms of combating gang violence." Gang patches could be banned in public under the proposed law. The Government's planOn Breakfast, Boyle was asked whether he thought the New Zealand Government's plan – to ban gang patches and increase police powers to tackle gangs – was an effective strategy.
