The Dallas Fed survey of factories in their oil patch is quite subdued in May which is probably no surprise given the languishing oil price. And with today's oil price retreat it will probably be even lower in June. And staying in China, a strong echo from their brutal pandemic lockdown is starting to play out in their economy. In Japan, their jobless rate fell back to the 2.6% level it was a few months ago, which was a better result than expected. But oil prices are a lot lower today from yesterday at just over US$69/bbl in the US and that is down -US$4/bbl.

One customer of One NZ (formerly Vodafone NZ) said he had issues accessing multiple .co.nz internet addresses from around 11.30pm last night. It’s better to wait until your internet service provider has followed InternetNZ’s instructions to flush its own cache (temporary storage of websites and related data, designed to speed up loading).

Tributes are pouring in for Tonga’s “beloved” Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili who died in Auckland on Sunday, aged 75. Princess Mele was a cousin of King Tupou VI, and the eldest daughter of the late Prince Fatafehi Tu'ipelehake and Princess Melen'aite. “I recall Princess Mele’s emotional and powerful speech during the Dawn Raids Apology in 2021. “Her speech at the Dawn Raids Apology in 2021 was breathtaking and demonstrated the dignity and elegance of true leadership,” Sorensen said. Both King Tupou VI and Princess Mele are the grandchildren of the late Queen Salote.
