because of climate changeStep 1: Slap the stupid off their face. Not a closed fist now, or the back of your hand, I mean a good old fashioned open handed slap to the face. We know from the ice record this has happened in the past, 635million year ago and it caused catastrophically abrupt climate change. One caused climate pollution equivalent to the rate of emissions from 67 million cars. If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media

Qantas has been closely watching rival Air New Zealand’s nine months of flying between Auckland and New York and has learned lessons from it. “We’ve chatted with Air New Zealand and where we always work together is with safety. “It’s a tight timeline to have these flights on time and we’ve really learned that from Air New Zealand,” she said before a New York launch event in Sydney. Research for the Auckland-New York flights has been under way for two years analysing weather patterns and possible flight tracks. There would be four pilots on the New York flights and they would determine the roster for flying shifts themselves, she says.

By Justin Wong ofPhoto: Te PapaThe remains of more than 100 Māori and Moriori are returning to Aotearoa New Zealand this week from Germany. Alongside six toi moko (Māori mummified tattooed heads), 95 koiwi tangata (Māori skeletal remains) and kōimi t'chakat Moriori (Moriori skeletal remains) and other taonga Māori were repatriated from seven German institutions, including the Stuttgart State Museum of Natural History and the Georg August University in Göttingen. Te Papa's haihautū (Māori co-leader) Dr Arapata Hakiwai said the work to repatriate tūpuna from Germany was "not easy" but it reflected the strong ties between Germany and New Zealand. "Our colleagues from these German institutions have shown significant respect and understanding towards Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori and Moriori, and demonstrated a strong sense of doing the right thing." Germany was one of the first countries to begin the repatriation of Māori and Moriori ancestral remains, with more than 150 ancestors returned from Hamburg, Bremen, Frankfurt, Cologne and Berlin since 1991.

'It's been an honour': Ex-All Black Brad Thorn departs coaching gig a proud man'It's been an honour': Ex-All Black Brad Thorn departs coaching gig a proud manDeparting Reds coach Brad Thorn. [Image: stuff.co.nz]Departing Reds coach Brad Thorn isn’t sure what his future holds, but does know "it’s just time to take a breath". The former World Cup-winning All Black bowed out from his post following Saturday’s 29-20 Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal defeat to the Chiefs in Hamilton. While far from a fairytale finish to his six-year spell, it was at least a fitting, fighting, display for the renowned hard man of both rugby and rugby league to sign off on. So what next for the man who, when in April announced he would be stepping down after this campaign, noted he had been “institutionalised” in professional sport?

The tax plan also included a 1.5 per cent tax on trust assets, and an increase in the top rate of income tax from 39 per cent to 45 per cent paid on income over $180,000. The party hiked other income taxes too, although these are paired with income tax cuts at the lower end of the scale. The 33 per cent tax rate would be hiked to 35 per cent, although the threshold for paying that rate would be $75,000, rather than $70,000 as currently. The party would drop the 39 per cent threshold to income earned above $120,000, meaning far more income earners would begin paying it. The party took a leaf from National’s tax policy and hiked the other income tax thresholds, which would deliver a tax cut to people on lower incomes.

Michael Wood has claimed he regretted his ' serious error' in hanging on to his Auckland Airport shares. The under-fire Minister sold the airport shares for the sum of $16,000 and donated them to the Anglican Trust charity. NZ Herald deputy political editor Thomas Coughlan says Michael Wood will likely face punishment- in the form of Cabinet demotion. "Possibly not to the bottom of Cabinet, but a demotion of some kind. Just to say- you can't do this, if you do stuff like this, there will be a punishment."

ACT’s David Seymour blames spike in supermarket crime on Government’s plan to reduce prison populationThe ACT Party is blaming a spike in crime at supermarkets on the Government’s plan to reduce the prison population. ACT are manipulating the Prison and Crime narrative. They say the soft-on-crime-cuddle-a-crim Labour Party are fecklessly letting out 4000 prisoners while the crime rate soars. When the National Party tightened Prison policy they allowed for non violent offenders to apply for home detention while in prison. What is generating the current crime wave is the same thing that is generating crime waves throughout the post-covid Western World.
