Fire crews have responded to a call-out in South Otago after a car crashed into a ditch. A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said crews from Balclutha and Clutha Valley attended the incident at the corner of Pannets and Clutha River roads, near Clydevale, about 4pm today. A single vehicle had left the road at a corner and entered a ditch, causing minor injuries to its three occupants. No one was trapped during the incident, the spokesman said. A cause for the crash has yet to be established.

Internet searches on “lethal doses” of medicine for children were found on Lauren Dickason’s cell phone. Stuff.co.nz reports that the searches were conducted on Lauren’s phone in July and August 2021. The search history includes:“Lethal Dose of Alprazolam for Children.” It was looked up on Lauren’s cell phone’s Internet search function on July 31. Joshua Locke, a digital forensic analyst for the police, was asked about the internet searches during cross-examination by Lauren’s lawyer Abbie Hollingworth. Locke confirmed that he did not include it in the report on Lauren’s phone after being instructed that it was not relevant.

The seven-day rolling average of cases has dropped to 535. Five deaths were reported in Auckland, six from Waikato, one from Bay of Plenty, one from Hawke's Bay, one from the Wellington region, three from Nelson-Marlborough, three from Canterbury, one from West Coast and three from Southern. Last week saw 4332 new cases reported and 13 further deaths.

The court heard Buschl had offered 20.55g of methamphetamine over four months. The court heard the defendant wanted to be able to serve a sentence from his home as he often worked there. The court heard Buschl had funded his own residential rehabilitation in Auckland and was now sober. You don’t want to go backwards.”He sentenced him to three months’ community detention and 15 months’ intensive supervision to be served at the address where the offending had occurred.

Kiritapu Allan has been fired as a Minister after being charged with reckless driving, resisting arrest and driving in breach of alcohol limits last night. Update: The Police now say that Allan has been charged with careless driving not reckless driving. Careless use is a fine only offence, reckless driving can involve a jail sentence. And the second charge was refusing to accompany not resisting arrest. Further update: It appears that the source of the misdescription may have been Allan herself.

Video / NZ HeraldA 21-year-old man has been remanded in custody on an assault charge, after he appeared to hold a woman hostage with a weapon in central Dunedin. He said there was a physical argument between a man and woman involving a weapon (not a firearm) at a residential apartment. “During the course of the argument, it appears the man tried to stop the woman from leaving the house. “However, with the assistance of emergency services, she was able to leave without incident.”The incident appeared to relate to a family-harm incident. The man has been remanded in custody on charges of assault on a person in a family relationship.
