There are many reasons to dislike Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown’s policies which generally put corporate welfare and private sector greed well ahead of the common good. Brown points out most of these services would be much cheaper if they were provided “in house” by lawyers, planners and accountants employed directly by the council. This “market model” is supposed to be cheaper but any savings have been long lost after 35 years of neo-liberalism. The late Penny Bright referred to the “contractocracy” in local and national government which was screwing us. It’s another failure of neo-liberalism which should be highlighted and hammered by Labour but the party is trapped by political paralysis.

Photo: NZ HeraldA teenage mother is fighting for her life following a crash in Christchurch that killed one of her friends and injured two others. She had been travelling with three of her friends, sitting in the passenger seat of the car at the time of the crash. Meanwhile, the mother said her daughter, who has a 10-month-old baby, has a long road of recovery ahead of her. “They’re young ... it’s an unfortunate situation where young kids in cars can’t really handle the road and unfortunately a driver lost her life because of it,” she said. “I’m thankful I’m not the mum who got the knock on the door from the police - I’d hate to be in that position.”

Tesla is ramping up its local presence with the opening of a giant new facility in South Auckland. “Tesla South” is 28,780sq m, or the size of three rugby fields. The cavernous facility is needed, in part, because EV sales are booming. All up, electric vehicle sales were close to double that of June last year. After a truly terrible trailer, no one had any expectations from The Meg sequel. Meg 2: The Trench Reviews Round-Up – A Shark Sized Disappointment! Meg 2: The Trench is releasing tomorrow and the media embargo for it was just lifted, a day before. Meg 2: The Trench must be a truly terrible film as we still don’t have all the reviews just yet. We want to recognize the kindest neighbors in your area. By nominating your special neighbor, you and your neighbor will both receive a $25 Prezzy card as a token of appreciation. Carole Moselen of Katikati nominated them, referring to them as her “petal fairy” and “garden fairy”. When Moselen’s roses bloom, the “petal fairy” gathers up fallen petals, and not only that, but also cleans up cat waste. The “garden fairy” takes care of weeding Moselen’s garden.
