MELBOURNE (Reuters) - After giving Stefanos Tsitsipas a semi-final bruising on Friday, Daniil Medvedev fired a mental barb at Novak Djokovic ahead of their Australian Open decider, declaring the pressure was all on the Serbian champion's shoulders. Djokovic will bid for a record-extending ninth Australian Open title and 18th Grand Slam crown in total to draw closer to Roger Federer's and Rafa Nadal's all-time record of 20. Yet Medvedev has now won 20 successive matches and 12 against top-10 opponents, including beating Djokovic on the way to winning the ATP Finals. "First of all, I like that I don't have a lot of pressure because he never lost in eight times he was here in the finals," Medvedev said. Djokovic also praised Medvedev as the "man to beat" in Melbourne and for two brilliant sets, the Russian lived up to the billing.

Fourth seed Medvedev served like a machine until broken in the third set, which revived the Greek fans in the terraces as Tsitsipas roared to a 5-4 lead. Serbian Djokovic is bidding for a record-extending ninth Australian Open title and has never lost a final in Melbourne. Tsitsipas has now lost three Grand Slam semis, including a five-set loss to Djokovic at last year's French Open. After sending a blazing backhand passing shot down the line, Medvedev waved his arms at the crowd, playing the villain in an echo of his run to the 2019 U.S. Open final. He closed out the match with a 208 km/hr second serve that Tsitsipas could only chop short, allowing Medvedev to jog forward and fire the winning forehand.

KOTA KINABALU: A turtle conservationist is offering RM10,000 to anyone who can help provide information on people involved in serving endangered turtle eggs at a reunion dinner linked to a family member of a former assemblyman. The conservationist, Alexander Yee, said he was making the offer in support of the Sabah Wildlife Department's efforts to catch and convict people involved in allegedly serving turtle eggs at the dinner. Yee was pleased that the state government had ordered a full investigation into the claims that family members of a former assemblyman had served turtle eggs at a Chinese New Year reunion dinner recently. Jafry had said that investigators said that without hard evidence of the physical turtle eggs, it would be difficult to get a conviction based on pictures posted on social media. Yee said that Foster and Sabah Wildlife had been working together under a five-year Memorandum of Understanding for sea turtle conservation works at Libaran Island in Sandakan since July 2018.

In my family home in Johor Baru, my parents, both Peranakans, celebrate Chinese New Year in a slightly different way from the other Chinese. A month before Chinese New Year, Mama would have bought cloth to make pyjamas for her six sons and the two daughters. Mama would be busy making kuih lapis, kuih bangkit and acar and preparing the spices for the chicken dish. We then squeezed into the car and head to Siang Lim Park in Singapore where my maternal grandmother resided. Mama brought out her tiffin carrier with her homemade acar, soup, chicken and other dishes, and our family would eat these.
