Nigeria’s Dangote refinery is negotiating with Libya and Angola to secure crude oil for its 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) plant, aiming to overcome domestic supply challenges, a senior executive revealed. Built by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, the $20 billion refinery on the outskirts of Lagos is Africa’s largest and aims to end Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuels. “We are talking to Libya about importing crude,” said Devakumar Edwin, a senior executive at Dangote refinery. Traders and shipping data indicate that Dangote is increasing gasoil exports to West Africa, capturing market share from European refiners.

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, discussed with the Ambassador of South Korea to Libya ‘‘Jang Jihak’’ last Wednesday 17 July, at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters, ways to enhance cooperation. The meeting discussed the development of a mechanism for organizing a Libyan Korean economic forum in the capital, Tripoli, in November 2024, with the effective participation of major Korean companies, investors, and business owners in both countries under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Trade.It also included discussing the raising the level of trade and investment between the two countries, and opening prospects for developing bilateral relations in all fields. July 21, 2024: Turkey continues to maintain military forces in Libya and expects that its troops and mercenaries will remain in Libya as long as it takes to gain their planned economic and political cooperation from Libyans. It has been around since 2015, when it was formed in eastern Libya and proceeded to eliminate rivals, especially Islamic radical groups, throughout the country. Egypt, for the first time in centuries, finds hostile Turkish troops next door and is not pleased. The only obstacle is the Turkish forces that refuse to leave Libya. Turkey is looking out for Turkish economic interests and knows it is blocking efforts to hold national elections in Libya.

Turkish forces have neutralized 15 PKK terrorists in northern Iraq’s Hakurk and Asos regions, and four PKK/YPG terrorists in Syria’s Euphrates Shield and Peace Spring regions, said the Ministry of National Defense on Saturday. “In honor of those fallen, our nation and our homeland, we continue our relentless fight against terrorism. Our brave Turkish Armed Forces have eliminated 15 PKK terrorists in Hakurk and Asos and four PKK/YPG terrorists in the Euphrates Shield and Peace Spring regions,” the ministry affirmed its ongoing commitment to combating terrorism. “We remain dedicated to proactive and uninterrupted operations to eradicate terrorism at its source,” the statement added. Saipem Wins Contract to Manage the Libya-Italy Undersea Gas PipelineSaipem has been awarded a contract to ensure the supervision and the subsea intervention services of the GreenStream pipeline throughout the offshore and onshore sections at the Mellitah (Libya) and Gela (Sicily, Italy) terminals. The new contract, awarded by GreenStream BV, one of the leading midstream players in the Mediterranean Sea, merges the activities that Saipem has been undertaking for GreenStream since 2008 as to asset integrity, inspection, maintenance and emergency pipeline services, and expands them to cover a wider range of scenarios and customer’s needs. The activities will be managed by Sonsub, Saipem’s center of excellence for robotics, underwater technologies and services, and executed in coordination with the Saipem Engineering Hub located in Fano, Italy. Specifically, repair interventions in case of damage will be performed via the SiRCoS technology, a remotely operated repair system industrialized by Sonsub and qualified to operate in water depths of up to 2,200 meters. It also consolidates the long-term cooperation between Saipem and GreenStream BV, which in 2002 awarded the company a contract for the pipelaying of said pipeline, a project thanks to which Saipem achieved the record for the deepest pipelaying with anchors.
