The arson case involving former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr Fonati Koffa and six other defendants, including three sitting lawmakers, was temporarily adjourned on Monday, due to a strange complaint for juror's misconduct. The juror misconduct allegations are raised by prosecution, specifically regarding a juror's request to replay a video recording and identify the defendant. The prosecution is raising concerns about potential juror misconduct, alleging that jurors may have been discussing the case among themselves during Wilson's testimony. Judge Willie had previously denied the prosecution's request to remove a juror, citing lack of evidence of bias or conflict of interest. In fact, the judge had ruled that the prosecution's evidence, which included unauthenticated photographs from social media, was unreliable.

Reactions by Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar and statements from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Information and the Armed Forces came hours after Trump’s tweet, explaining that the operation in the north-western state of Sokoto was a Nigeria-U.S. joint/collaborative effort. However, the CSOs and leaders in their statement said: “By inviting a foreign government to manage what is fundamentally an internal security challenge, the President ceded sovereign authority in a manner that undermines Nigeria’s constitutional order. Any security action, especially one involving foreign military forces, must be grounded in transparency, civilian protection, and democratic oversight. None of these standards were met.”“While we acknowledge the importance of international counter-terrorism cooperation,” they said. The American Christmas airstrikes, like Trump warning in November, have elicited mixed reactions for and against.

Jallah: “With proper motivation and resources, our teams can achieve far more. We can collect US$2 billion instead of US$1.2 billion, we can cover recurring expenditures and invest heavily in infrastructure and national development. Incentivizing staff is a critical part of this equation.”

The State Department also recently announced it would restrict visas for Nigerians and their family members involved in killing Christians. But that is now diluted by Nigeria’s recent military operation in neighbouring Benin to help foil an attempted military coup. Like Gumi, but perhaps for different reasons, many would argue that Nigeria has what it takes, militarily, to defeat Boko Haram and other terrorist armed groups. In 2012, former President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed that Boko Haram sympathizers were in his government. If it was based on shared intelligence, how come Nigeria was rather reactive, given the time-lag between Trump’s tweet and the Nigerian Foreign Ministry statement on the airstrikes?

Critics argue this practice distorts the true size of the government payroll and masks the actual cost of public sector labor. Data presented by the former minister shows a dramatic rise in Liberia’s wage bill over the past decade, growing from US$113.9 million in 2010 to the US$354 million projected for 2026. While the draft 2026 budget lists US$329 million under the standard compensation line (Budget Code 21), an additional US$26 million is reportedly embedded in “Other Compensation” (Budget Code 222123). They are also urging lawmakers to enforce these reforms during the mid-term review of the 2026 budget. Journalists, economists, and civil society groups are being encouraged to closely track the disputed budget line and interrogate the data to ensure greater transparency.

By Amos HarrisState prosecutors in the ongoing Capitol Building arson case have filed a formal motion seeking the immediate disbandment of the current petit jury, citing deep-seated concerns regarding juror competence, independence, and impartiality. The prosecution argues that the current venire has demonstrated a clear inability to render unbiased and independent verdicts in this high-profile trial. Specifically, the government alleges that several of the fourteen trial jurors displayed behavior suggesting a lack of the resolve and independence necessary to exercise sound judgment. In support of the motion, the prosecution cited Section 19 of the Jury Procedures Manual of the Judicial Branch of the Liberian Government. In a swift response, defense lawyers strongly opposed the motion, arguing that jurors are legally permitted to ask questions for clarification.
