In its annual assessment of labour governance, LILGA concluded that conditions within the labour sector deteriorated significantly throughout 2025, with the Ministry of Labour presiding over what it called systemic collapse rather than reform. The report revealed that official Ministry data show that 10,974 foreign work permits were issued in 2024, generating nearly nine million United States dollars in revenue. LILGA alleged that key figures within the Ministry, including the Minister, assistant ministers, the Deputy Inspector General of Labour, labour commissioners, and senior inspectors, were involved in sustaining this network. LILGA reported that workers at Bong Mines have openly rejected Ministry officials and warned of protests should the Minister return. The organization stressed that Liberia cannot achieve inclusive economic development when its citizens are denied opportunities through a fraudulent work permit system designed to enrich elite networks.

By: Christopher C. Walker, [email protected]The Lofa Steering Committee issued an official statement on Monday, January 5, citing “careful consideration of circumstances” for the withdrawal. The friction stems from a disciplinary ruling that saw Lofa County’s football team disqualified for fielding ineligible players. Sports observers and players alike believe the Lofa steering committee basketball withdrawal is a retaliatory strike against the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS). In a strongly worded letter to the Lofa County steering committee, the basketball players described the withdrawal as “unjust” and unrelated to their sport. The Lofa County steering committee knows exactly what to do or who to write whenever they have issues.

“Years back, we said we were going to serve one term, and that term ends in April,” Gray told the gathering. He reminded affiliates of the hurdles they faced in securing voting rights within the LFA Congress, a feat he credits largely to Raji’s administration. “Some people never wanted us to be part of the LFA voters,” Gray recalled. With the LFA elections roughly four months away, Gray’s exit from the Executive Committee comes with a succession plan. Gray urged the voting bloc to remain united,” warning that the influence they fought for could be undermined if they split their support.
