Former President of Sierra Leone – Ernest Bai Koroma charged with treasons
Speaking after the court appearance – counsel for the former President, Joseph F. Kamara told reporters that a dark cloud has today descended upon Sierra Leone and that a dangerous precedent has been set, involving trumped-up charges against a former president of Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone no longer has the death penalty on its statute books for treason. After his brief appearance at the magistrate court today by former President Koroma, the hearing was adjourned till 17th January 2024. Subject to your approval, arrangements will be made to fly Former President Koroma out of Freetown on Thursday 4 January 2024. Ex- S/Leone President Charged with Treason
Freetown, Sierra Leone — Former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has been charged with four counts of treason in connection with an attempted coup. “The former president is charged with four offenses, including treason, misprision of reason, and two counts of harboring,” a statement released by the country’s Ministry of Information and Civic Education said on Wednesday, January 3. Since being questioned about the coup attempt, Mr. Koroma has been under house arrest. Koroma is the immediate past president of Sierra Leone. He served as president for 11 years until the election in 2018, which saw the current President Julius Maada Bio come to power.

Why should the incoming Liberian administration prioritize rebuilding the country’s appalling healthcare system? The country’s healthcare system also needs trained medical staff (doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, lab technicians, radiologists) as well as pulmonologists and cardiologists. To first step in reforming the healthcare system and food security in Liberia is to provide attractive wage packages to people in those fields. The second step is to make sense of the following recommendations:Privatize the country’s healthcare system and engage the private sector to seek out investors to invest in the sector.

Xi said the summit has pointed out the direction for both nations’ ties, under a future-oriented vision. “I am willing to work with President Biden to continue to steer and navigate the China-U.S. relationship for the benefit of China and the US and the two peoples, and to promote the cause of world peace and development,” Xi said. U.S. Navy helicopters fire at Yemen’s Houthi rebels, kill several in latest Red Sea shipping attack
BEIRUT — The U.S. military said Sunday that its forces opened fire on Houthi rebels after they attacked a cargo ship in the Red Sea, killing several of them in an escalation of the maritime conflict linked to the war in Gaza. Four small boats then attacked the same cargo ship with small arms fire early Sunday and rebels tried to board the vessel, the U.S. Navy said. “The U.S. Navy helicopters returned fire in self-defense,” sinking three of the four boats and killing the people on board while the fourth boat fled the area, the U.S. Central Command said. The events surrounding the Maersk Hangzhou represented the 23rd illegal attack by the Houthis on international shipping since Nov. 19, the Central Command said. It was the first time the U.S. Navy said its personnel had killed Houthi fighters since the Red Sea attacks started.

— Cultivated 18.5 hectares of swampThe Liberia Farmers Development Corporation (LIFADCO) has successfully revived the activities of the Kpodoe Multipurpose Farmers’ Cooperative in Zayglay, near Bahn City in Nimba County. With the assistance provided by LIFADCO, the cooperative has cultivated approximately 18.5 hectares of swamp with rice, which have been divided into 1,200 plots. “The swamp land Kpodoe cultivated this year is far beyond what they had been cultivating. In addition to assisting in cultivation, LIFADCO also offers extension services and promotes good agricultural practices to smallholder farmers and cooperatives through farmer field schools.
