Jerror Cole Bangalu, as the Executive Director of the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) has ignited an intense public debate. In an official communication, the Executive Mansion defended the reassignment as a strategic necessity. Many political analysts and civil society actors contend that the move effectively diminishes Bangalu’s political standing. One governance analyst noted that the shift is less about the importance of the LRRRC and more about the perceived downgrade in political influence. As the Boakai administration continues to realign its leadership, Bangalu’s new role has become a focal point for discussions on loyalty, performance, and political strategy.

A First-Half ResurgencePlaying before a spirited home crowd, Borough FC found themselves under early pressure. The “Church Boys” of Jubilee FC stunned the supporters in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to take a 1–0 lead. Jubilee FC, hindered by a thin bench traveling with only one substitute, displayed significant grit but lacked the depth to penetrate Borough’s organized backline. Vitalis Sie Jr. also took his season tally to 3 goals. Borough FC will look to maintain this momentum as they climb the First Division table, while Jubilee FC must regroup ahead of their next fixture as they remain at the bottom of the table.

Two months later, he and the retired judges reached an agreement to clear the backlog of 16 years of judicial pensions liability. Across Nigeria, retired judges are increasingly resorting to judicial proceedings to call attention to a crippling and chronic crisis of judicial pensions for judges who retired before June 2023. For long, the constitution provided for how to compute judicial pensions, but not necessarily for how to finance or administer them effectively. Effective from June 2023, a new constitutional amendment transferred responsibility for the administration of judicial pensions to the National Judicial Council (NJC). This crisis of judicial pensions and terminal benefits fosters a system of perverse incentives conducive to bartering judicial outcomes for material benefit.
