The Chairman of LEITI MSG, C. Mike Doryen, following the adoption of the report on Tuesday, said the 12th report was compiled under the Flexible Reporting Framework adopted by the EITI board. Monrovia – The Multi-Stakeholder Steering Group (MSG) of the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI) has approved the 12th EITI report for Liberia covering the period July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020. The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is the global standard to promote the open and accountable management of oil, gas and mineral resources. He said LEITI MSG, at the start of November 2020, commissioned its 12th EITI Report and hired the services of BDO in collaboration with Parker & Associates Liberia, two reputable auditing firms, to prepare the 12th EITI Report for Liberia using the Flexible Reporting Framework. For the first time, the Chairman noted, Liberia’s EITI report includes information on beneficial ownership of companies in the oil, mining, agriculture, and forestry sectors.

Greenville, Sinoe County – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with funding from the Swedish government has extended its Sexual and Reproductive Health Program targeting adolescent boys and girls to Sinoe County. Kakata, Margibi County – Community Healthcare Initiative-CHI, a local NGO into health and advocacy Wednesday conducted a one-day consultative maternal health meeting in partnership with the Margibi Health Team to brainstorm on how the relationship between Train Traditional Midwives-TTM and Medical facilities in Margibi County can be strengthen. These meetings are a part of activities under the project titled: “strengthening the health system while challenging colonialism,” which is being funded by the Open Society in West Africa-OSIWA. This meeting will open up a lot of things that we can discuss besides maternal health,” stated Dr. Pajibo. MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission, (NEC) says it has received a notification from the Honorable House of Representatives informing them of four vacancies in the 54th National Legislature. The Nimba County notification from the House of Representatives brings to four the numbers of vacancies within the 54th National Legislature. Article 37 of the Liberian Constitution says, “In the event of a vacancy in the Legislature caused by death, resignation, and expulsion or otherwise, the presiding officer shall within 30 days notify the Elections Commission thereof. The Elections Commission shall not later than 90 days thereafter cause a by-election to be held; provided that where such vacancy occurs within 90 days prior to the holding of general elections, the filling of the vacancy shall await the holding of such general elections”. The Country witnessed similar situation in the just ended December 8, 2020 special senatorial elections.

MONROVIA – A US Based Liberian Cherish Morlu has donated five hundred United States Dollars (USD$500) to facilitate human rights activist Leroy Archie Ponpon’s travel for advance medical treatment in Ghana. In a statement, Madam Morlu said the amount (USD$500) was raised through a program with other diaspora Liberians and humanitarians residing in the United States to aid Mr. Archie Ponpon. Morlu, who resides in the United States, is currently a student of Penn State University in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Finley Y. Karngar urged activist Ponpon to continue his advocacy against social injustice and ills in society. However, Mr. Ponpon is expected to depart the country today to Ghana for advance medical treatment.
