MONROVIA – For the sustenance of the Montserrado County Team in the ongoing County Meet, District 8 Representative Acarous Gray has donated US$800.00. Of the amount, US$500 was presented to the male team and US$300 was presented to the female team. Representative Gray in another development presented US$500 to the female team of Montserrado County for their qualifiers to the quarter final in the ongoing County Meet tournament. The District 8 Representative has also promised to make a cash presentation of US$1,000.00 to the male team when qualifies to the quarter final into the ongoing County Meet. “As we lead Montserrado to Championship 2021, it’s our mission to defend the red, white and blue,” Rep. Gray said.

According to them, their businesses and community have been invaded with flies, cockroaches, rats and other insects due to the huge stockpile of garbage in the area. She pointed out that the site has been a major dumping ground for residents of Banjor, Brewerville and other communities in the district. Even when we are selling, no way for the people to buy because the flies can’t give us chance”. He denied reports that the garbage has spent more than three months at the site, but pointed out that the MCC pities the condition of the residents and marketers.

Liberia: House Reawakens APM Terminals’ Investigation amid Latest Increment in Tariff
The House’s latest move came as a result of APM Terminals’ latest increment of all current charges of its services at the Free Port of Monrovia. The port operator said the increment was in line with its concession agreement with the government of Liberia which allows a 2021 tariff adjustment using predefined formula. He said there was an urgent need to review the agreement signed between the APM Terminals and the Government to correct some of the flaws that the company is dwelling to exploit the Liberian citizens. I think APM Terminals’ operations in Liberia need to be revisited to address some of the clauses that continue to harm our people and economy. As part of its investigation, members of the committee travelled to Ghana in 2020 to get firsthand information on APM terminals’ operation in Ghana, as compared to its activities in Liberia.

Liberia: “No complaint of Fraud & Irregularities” – NEC First Witness Testifies in Nimba County Electoral Fraud Case
MONROVIA – The complaint filed by Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh for fraud and irregularity against the National Elections Commission (NEC) in the just-ended senatorial election in Nimba County has been denied by NEC first witness. Taking the witness stand on Thursday, January 14, 2021, witness Michael T.V Deddeh told the hearing officer and the gathering that, “No complain of fraud & irregularities were filed within any of the 741 polling places in Nimba County on the day of tally. Mr. Deddeh explained further that, all parties’ representatives signed the tally sheets validating the records of counts on December 8, 2020 thereby waving their rights to any allegation of voting Fraud and Irregularity. During his testimony, he blamed Madam Weh’s complaint on the lack of knowledge of fraud and cautioned Liberians participating in the electoral process to understand the processes leading to filing a complaint during election period. He explained his long termed experience working with the NEC and admitted not working with them during this gone senatorial election because he served as the chief representative for Senator Elect, Jeremiah Koung who was announced as winner during the just ended election by NEC.

Emmanuel Bowier has warned that the printing of new banknotes will create more problems in the country than fixing the economy, stressing that the government does not have a “secure reserve” to back the minting of new money. “Printing new money could help or it could harm the situation,” he said. He also urged “people in the system” to derive solutions to fix the system before things get out of hand. The people in power kept it as a top secret and credited money from the old people to pay its employees. “So, if this money problem is not solved in a timely manner the young people could get impatient and cause violence.

Congo Town – The Government of Liberia, through the payroll management training has kickoff training to provide insight for personal analysts, human resource personnel, and comptrollers, among others, on payroll management. The training according to Dell Francis Wreh, Head of the Payroll Management Team, is a start of series of trainings that will create an improve financial management system for government entities. “The training focus on how to process the Payroll and education on several issues concerning the Payroll,” Mr. Wreh said. “Each time we want to set up things, people will try to bypass us,” Mr. Thompson said. Meanwhile Mr. Thompson said the numbers of government employees have been significantly reduced, since they embarked on cleaning of the Payroll.

Prof. Tarpeh, however, emphasized that the government of which he’s apart has to “work” the environment and climate change into the country’s national development planning. Nelson Jr. also appreciated the UNDP and the EPA for coming with the NAP project and also for including the University of Liberia (UL) in said project. “Liberia’s NAP Project has become and serves as a model of excellence for other countries to build on,” averred Madame Brown.

Liberia: Sen. Dillon’s Brother Acquitted of Murder Charges after Nearly Two Years behind Bars
MONROVIA – After nearly two years of being trapped in a murder allegation, the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Margibi County today set Oliver Dillon free of the crime of murder. Oliver is a brother of Montserrado County Senator Darius Dillon. All 12 jurors, in a unanimous verdict Thursday, January 14, 2021, brought down a not-guilty verdict in favor of Oliver Dillon, something that was subsequently affirmed by Judge Joe Barcon. Oliver Dillon was on trial for allegedly murdering one Emmanuel Kofi believed to be a zogo (disadvantaged youth) in the Barnesville Community in early April 2019. “Political and public sentiments clouded the case thus forcing the delay of Justice for Oliver”, a supporter and sympathizer of Oliver Dillion stated.

Sara Beysolow Nyanti is the highest ranking Liberian in the U N systemUnited Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Sara Beysolow Nyanti of Liberia as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal, with the host Government’s approval. Ms. Nyanti brings more than 20 years of experience in development and humanitarian work to the position, which she has acquired from assignments around the world with the United Nations and externally. She also held leadership positions across the United Nations in Jordan, Namibia, Nepal and Nigeria, working in multiple sectors and agencies on key issues such as Ebola response coordination. Prior to joining the United Nations, Ms. Nyanti worked as her country’s Director of the National AIDS Control Program in the health ministry. She authored the first Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria funding for the national AIDS response of Liberia and led the development and subsequent legislation of the national AIDS policy, guidelines and law.

Weala, Margibi County – The attention of the management of Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC), hereinafter referred to as the company, has with absolute shock been drawn to publications carried in the local print and electronic media over the past week, alleging malpractices by the company on various fronts, as a result of its rubber plantation operations in Liberia. In the course of conducting its business operations in Liberia, the company continues to assist the government with its social economic efforts by providing employment, education, and health care services not only for its workforce, but also for residents from surrounding local communities. In testimony to the foregoing, the company’s health center was the only one that remained opened and operated in District #5 of Margibi County throughout the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Liberia, rendering services to all including community members without discrimination.
