With that in mind, Senator Zargo has revealed that there are hidden hands trying to ensure that former Vice President Joseph Boakai, who many see as the potential candidate to head the ticket of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), does not get this privilege from the CPP. “There are hidden hands in this country that are trying to ensure that JNB (Joseph N Boakai) does not show up on the ticket of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP); so now trying to demonize me in a way and manner so that I become irrelevant,” Senator Zargo told Legislative reporters at his Capitol Building offices yesterday. However, Senator Zargo asserted that Lofa County politics is dynamic, cultured, traditional, and nurtured, and has its fabric in its DNA. “They have even removed my name from the official chat room of the Liberty Party which I created. Didn’t we see nine votes with Senator Wesseh, and ten with Senator Naatehn; what made you think that I would have gotten nineteen, and when there were already prior discussions?” Senator Zargo intimated.

Monrovia – The National Civil Society Council of Liberia (NCSCL) through its leadership has sharply condemned Liberia’s top Muslim clerics over alleged comments made at a dinner organized by Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) in commemoration of Ramadan. However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Civil Society Council said the comments made by the Muslim leaders undermine national security and further have the propensity to ignite instability in the Mano River Union (MRU) Sub-region. It called on the Muslim Community through the Inter Religious Council of Liberia to engage relevant stakeholders and build a national case supported by all religious and traditional segments of the population. “Let us maintain the peace, respect the rule of law, uphold religious harmony and stay away from radicalization,” it urged.

Gender Ministry Social Cash Transfer Program Poised to Stimulate Economic Activities in Slum Communities
Monrovia – Aurelius Butter, the National Coordinator for the Liberia Social Safety Nets Project at the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection says he is optimistic that the Social Cash Transfer Program will benefit families who have been hit seriously by the impact of COVID-19. The Social Cash Transfer Program is being sponsored by UKaid. The National Coordinator for the Liberia Social Safety Nets Project said the original estimate for the project was USD$3.5 million. The Social Cash Transfer Program he added is currently operating in Maryland and Grand Kru and Bomi Counties with a plan to move onto River Gee County. Also, “Give Directly” is an International Non-governmental Organization that is responsible to deliver the cash transfer.

Liberia: US$ 300, 000 Clinic Construction Underway in Thinker Village Community
MONROVIA — Progress is being made on a new state-of-the-art clinic in the Thinker Village community being constructed by a Liberian residing in the United States of America, Miss Patricia Verdier. ‘’I want to build a clinic to help my country, my community, and the people that made me who I’m today. Valued at over $300, 000, the eighteen-bedroom clinic, according to Miss Verdier, will help address the needs of the community and surrounding areas and create jobs for Liberians. Miss Verdier said the clinic when completed will serve a community of over 5,000 people, of which one-third are children. Verdier complete the clinic, adding that when completed it would save the life of many Liberians.

German Mineral Company Assures Liberia of the Reactivation of Mining Business, Doctors to Liberia Program
The German investment company made a declaration on Thursday to reactivate the “Doctors to Liberia” program in order to contribute to the development of a resilient health sector in the country as part of its social responsibility. “The company will also bring doctors from Germany to Liberia and take over the costs for the doctors, the drugs and the sick,” said the declaration, signed by Richie Engl, CEO and Jürgen Bertram. “The aim is to bring many investors to Liberia who will invest in all areas of the economy. Richie Engl, CEO also said in the statement that he asks everyone to get in touch with him with ideas ([email protected]) so that further joint ventures can be founded. The company also announced that gold mining will be the pilot project in Liberia and additional gold and diamond mining projects are planned.

Monrovia – Journalists of The Stage Media have participated in a two-day Africa Check, online fact-checking training to Improve their quality of reporting. Carina Van Wyk, head of Education and Training of Africa Check says it is important for journalist to engage in fact-checking before disseminating information to the public. The training enables the Liberian journalists to uunderstand the different types of false information and the dangers of it spreading. Five Alleged Armed Robbers Gunned Down

MenjorFresh Frozen Food Store, a cold storage located in the commercial hub of Red Light, attracted hundreds of onlookers on May 20, 2021 when authorities of the Liberian National Police (LNP) narrated the horrific encounter they had with five armed men which, they said, were armed robbers. The Police boss at the same time displayed a video footage in which one of the alleged armed robbers was seen in full Police uniform in upper Caldwell making an attempt to break into a facility said to be hosting Chinese nationals involved in the sale of sand. A travelling bag filled with Liberian Dollar banknotes was opened by Sudue, identifying the money as some of what the deceased armed robbers wanted to have made away with. Other items found and reported to the media were two single barrel guns and pistols with ammunition beside the corpses of the alleged armed robbers. “We need more support so we can be more vigilant,” Sudue stressed, adding that one of his officers is nursing a bullet wound sustained from one of the alleged armed robbers a few weeks ago.

GAC Audit Report Reveals How US$71K Was Spent for Madagascar COVID-19 Herb
There has been no update on the use of the COVID herbs which was strongly disapproved by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Liberia. Health authorities often shied away from questions relating to its use in Liberia since its arrival into the country. Appearing before the Joint Legislature Committee on Public Account (PAC), Health Minister, Dr. Wilhemina Jallah, confirmed that US$71,500 was used to procure the condemned covid-19 herb. “The West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) didn’t approved the herb, the herb was a donation and the transport cost was shared by the countries the flight went to. The flight didn’t leave from Madagascar to Liberia, it originated from Guinea Bissau and went to couple of countries,” Senator Snowe said.

Liberian Registry Reaches 200 Million Gross Ton Milestone; Continues to Ascend as World’s Leading Open Registry
MONROVIA – The Liberian Registry has attained a historic milestone, reaching a fleet size of 200 million gross tons. This achievement further confirms the position of Liberia as the second-largest, and fastest-growing, ship registry in the world. Liberia has risen from third largest ship registry to now being firmly in the second position. The Liberian flag registered 524 ships in 2020 and 276 ships have been registered to date in 2021, of which 28% were newbuilding deliveries. Currently the Liberian fleet stands at 4,750 vessels and 200m GT.

IREDD Wants Government Take Prompt Action to Resolve Nimba County Land Dispute
Recent land crisis in Nimba County specifically concerning the land dispute in Ganta left properties damaged and disrupted the peace and movement of the inhabitants. Despite calm being restored in the county, the issues leading to a genuine reconciliation is far from conclusion. “The Ministry of Lands and Mines and the Liberia Lands Authority must design corrective measures to mitigate this the situation in Nimba and all other parts of Liberia,” IREDD Executive Director said. While in Nimba County, IREDD was able to hold a peace conference. During the conference, participants, however, registered troubling testimonies involving some media houses in Nimba in relations to their reportage and the inflammatory messages they ran on their platforms, IREDD Executive Director stated.

Pro-War & Economic Crimes Court Groups Petition Legislature to Repeal Act Granting Immunity to Perpetrators of War Crimes, Atrocities During Liberian Civil War
In the petition, the groups said, to fully implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions(TRC) recommendations, there is a need to nullify laws passed by participants of the wars to protect themselves. According to the group, the composition of said government was by promotional representation of ex-warlords or ex-rebels of the various warring factions from December 1989 to August 1997. Liberia Returnee Network Pleads to Government and Humanitarian Organizations to Support the Return of Liberians Living in Refugee’s Camps
It is almost two decades since the civil war that caused many Liberians to flee into refugee camps ended. Although some Liberians have returned, there are still good numbers of Liberians who are yet to return because of fear of being neglected by society. At the event, a documentary was shown, depicting a difficult situation confronting Liberian refugees, especially in Ghana. In the documentary, Liberian refugees stressed that despite they have spent many years in Ghana and other countries, citizens of those countries are yet to recognize them as compatriots. Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of Liberia Returnee Network said Liberian refugees want to come back home but are worried about being accepted in their motherland after so many years of being in exile.
