Monrovia – The visiting Japanese Ambassador accredited to Liberia, His Excellency HIMENO Tsutomu, has disclosed that work on the Somalia Drive, soon to be renamed the ‘Japan Freeway’ is expected to be completed in May 2021. The Japanese Envoy indicated that His Government is very pleased with progress being made thus far and the level of knowledge transfer to the local engineer, who are prepared to carry out retain maintenance. Grand Bassa – Decades of finding it difficult for the people of Klehn town to get their way to other parts of the county and Nimba, Grand Bassa County Senator Jonathan Kaipay, through the help of the United Methidist Church, has dedicated a bridge over the Wee River, District 3c, Grand Bassa County. The Klehn Town Wee Bridge connects Grand Bassa and Nimba counties . Before now, vehicle had never passed through Klehn town to get to Nimba or from the other side, due to the lack of bridge. The head of Liberia United Methodist Development Services mentioned that the people of Klehn town contributed 5 percent, while the Methodist Church contributed 40 and the Senator contributed 55 percent. Speaking, Senator Jonathan Kaipay thanked the United Methodist Church and the community for their steadfastness in ensuring that the bridge was completed.

SASS TOWN, Grand Kru County — President George Manneh Weah has lit up streets and homes in his native land, Sass Town, Grand Kru County. Felorkri, Sass Town was lit up Sunday evening with solar power on the eve of the President’s departure from the county. The streets and 500 homes in Sasstown were lighted, as first phase of his electrification of Grand Kru County. Sass Town is among one of the least develop areas in Grand Kru County and Liberia at large, with most of its inhabitants relying on fishing and farming as major source of survival. MONROVIA — The age-old problem of student agitations owing to lack of teachers at the only high school in River Cess County is at the verge of being solved. The absence of Mr. Twehway at the ceremony was due to his presence on President George Weah’s nationwide. Before then students of the school went on the rampage destroying the only vehicle belonging to the County School System. They are Vah Town Public School, Sawpue Public School, Dorbor Public School, Gborwuzohn Public School, Gbardiah Public School and Gorzohn Public School. The Gborwuzohn Public School did not operate for the 2019/2020 school year due to several challenges including lack of teachers.

Paynesville – Police in Monrovia have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a 46-year old woman whose body was discovered in the 72nd Community early Monday. According to Police Spokesperson Moses Carter, the deceased, identified as Florence Massaquoi was a resident of Rock Community in Paynesville. Residents of the 72nd Community woke up to a horror scene on Monday following the discovery of the body with deep cuts to several parts. According to him, the deceased lived in Paynesville along with their son, Othello, while he lives in Mattadi, Sinkor. Recently a body of a man in his 30s with several bruises was discovered in the Outland Community near the Benson Hospital.

To be good human beings and to be of value to our communities, we must have the courage to say no to violence, especially against women and girls! I feel it is my duty to speak of my Grebo heritage, as well as the Liberian and African culture and tradition. Vamba Sherif, another great Liberian writer, is from Lofa. It is not an African poetry book like all of my others.
