How does the RIA Road Concession help improve the economy of Liberia? There was no legal tender process established by the ministry for the RIA Road Project. The Liberian fellow, who is identified as the local manager of East International Group, became the well-known liaison between MoS and MPW. The RIA Project was a perfect opportunity, and I still believe that with your intervention, Honorable Senators, we can salvage this road project and get it paid for completely by the private sector.

Monrovia – At long last, the Liberian Senate has finally passed into law a bill seeking to elevate the Lofa County Community College to a full-fledged four-year university. Recently, Lofa County Senators Joseph Jallah and Senator Zargo sent a copy of their letter to the Liberian Senate, dismissing accusations that they were against the elevation of the Lofa County Community College (LCCC) to a full-fledged university. Many Lofians believe it was the effort and recent communication of Senator Jallah to Senate Pro Tempt, Albert Chie that gave rise to the timely passage of the act. Lofians are of the view that many leaders do not easily do what was demonstrated by Senator Jallah for the sake of the County. The passage of the act now defeats argument that Senator Jallah stood against the passage of the bill at the upper house.

MONROVIA – The opposition political parties in Liberia are divided over plans to stage a protest against the Coalition for Democratic Change-led government of President George Manneh Weah over bad governance, corruption, wasteful spending, and other vices ahead of the 2023 general and presidential elections in the country. He said the current attitude being exhibited by these opposition political parties and their leaders, amounts to aiding and abetting the government in imposing hardship and sufferings on the Liberian people. He, however, fell short of disclosing the name of a particular political party or opposition leader who is not supportive of the rally. The pronouncement clearly shows a high level of disunity among opposition political parties in the country. At the end of those meetings, photos and press releases take over social media, portraying the opposition community to be serious-minded.

The “caveat” from the Chief of Staff of the Army Force of Liberia, which warned political actors in the country to behave, is “in no way a threat and misapplication of authority,” the Ministry of National Defense has said. It is also noted that the army can help in restoring order domestically when civil law enforcement agencies are overwhelmed, but said request must come from the President. “The AFL shall intervene only as a last resort when the threat exceeds the capacity of the law enforcement agencies to respond,” the Defense Act says. It is important to note that sustaining democracy, peace, and tranquility is supreme to our mission,” the Ministry said. Yet, many have called for the army to stay out of civil matters in order to avoid the unexpected.
