A U.S. court has ordered the company running a Zug Island refinery in Detroit to pay a penalty of $100 million US for its sulphur dioxide pollution. A U.S. court has ordered the company running a Zug Island refinery in Detroit to pay a penalty of $100 million US for its sulphur dioxide pollution. The EES Coke facility, located on Zug Island between River Rouge and Detroit, failed to meet federal standards for sulphur dioxide in the air, the ruling said. “The facility emitted over 3,200 tons of sulfur dioxide pollution in 2018, compared to permitted baseline sulfur dioxide levels of under 2,100 tons per year,” the ruling said. “When sulfur dioxide is taken up by the fog, it actually turns into tiny particles and sulfuric acid mists much more quickly,” he said.

1 / 11If you're tracking the success or failure of films, you should know some of the terms and their mathematics. A film is considered a hit only when the distributor's share exceeds the cost of purchasing the film. 6 / 11Sometimes a film is average at the box office, but these rights allow producers to make a profit. Movie tickets have become more expensive these days, making it easier to earn Rs 100 crore. 9 / 11Simply put, a sleeper hit is a film that releases without much fanfare, heavy promotion, or superstar presence.

Articles 6, 174, 175, 187, 189, and 196 laid the foundation, while Article 10 demanded inclusive governance and continuous public participation. Yet Nairobi City County’s ongoing transfer of functions to the National Government raises serious questions about transparency, governance, and accountability. In March 2020, former Governor Mike Sonko and the then Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa signed a deed transferring four county functions to Nairobi Metropolitan Services, published in the Kenya Gazette. Without a robust publicly accessible Deed of Transfer, Nairobi risks repeating these mistakes. The transfer of functions must be transparent, legally grounded, and publicly scrutinised.

EAC leaders attending the Multisectoral Dialogue in Kigali. By KPC ReporterThe East African Community (EAC) has convened a two-day high-level Multisectoral Dialogue in Kigali to tackle persistent trade barriers and accelerate regional integration. Despite legal and policy frameworks being in place, intra-EAC trade has stagnated at around 15% of total trade for over a decade, far below the region’s potential of 30–50%. EAC Secretary General Veronica Nduva noted that while regional trade grew from US$6.42 billion in 2016 to US$15.25 billion in 2024, intra-regional exports remain modest, accounting for just 12.2% of total trade. In parallel, Somalia has been cleared to adopt the EAC e-Passport, marking a significant step in its integration into the bloc.

New Mexico probes allegation of bodies buried near Epstein ranchNew Mexico’s Department of Justice said on Wednesday the state was investigating an allegation, which emerged from documents released by the US Department of Justice, that the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein ordered the bodies of two foreign girls buried outside his remote New Mexico ranch. New Mexico Department of Justice spokesperson Lauren Rodriguez said it had requested from the US Justice Department an unredacted copy of an email in 2019 containing the allegation. The US Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In an interview on Wednesday, New Mexico State Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard said her office had found the redacted email during a recent search of the latest Epstein file release. Garcia Richard, in a February 10 letter to the US Justice Department and a statement, called on federal and state justice officials to fully investigate allegations of criminality on Epstein’s ranch and state lands adjacent to it.
