Lewis Hamilton awkwardly confessed he doesn't 'really know' Richard Hammond after the former Top Gear presenter sent him a good-luck message ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix. 'Lewis, the folks at Shell Helix have asked me to send you a message, rather thoughtfully,' the 56-year-old's message began. I don't really know him.' Many racing fans rushed to social media to remind Hamilton that he appeared on Top Gear twice and must have met Hammond in the past. Fellow Briton George Russell continued his impressive start to the season by claiming pole for Saturday's sprint race, with Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli 0.289 seconds behind.

Research into air corps deaths is due to be presented to the minister for defence in two weeks' time. Helen McEntee has told Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh the research has been conducted by Department of Defence officials. Public health expert Professor Anthony Staines told the air corps two years ago there needed to be an in-depth look at premature air corps deaths. This was, at the time, based on a list of about 112 premature deaths of serving and former air corps personnel collated by toxic poisoning campaigner Gavin Tobin. Mr Ó Snodaigh said it should not have taken ex-members of the air corps like Mr Gavin to carry out “heart-breaking” research into premature deaths.

Jamie Carragher says Unai Emery should be the next Manchester United manager - but thinks they probably won't give him a chance for two key reasons. Emery continues to work miracles at Aston Villa, who sit fourth in the Premier League and are hoping to qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons. Manchester United have been impressed by caretaker manager Michael Carrick's work but will assess their options in the summer. If, like United, you are dreaming big to win the Premier League and Champions League in the next five years, Emery’s record at Arsenal and Paris St-Germain is a red flag. In any case, the Manchester United job might not become available.

Cillian Murphy says Helen McCrory ‘one of greatest actors’By Jenny Garnsworthy, Press AssociationActor Cillian Murphy has said he appreciates how Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight has kept the late actress Helen McCrory’s memory alive in the new spin-off film. The award-winning show ended following the sixth series in 2022 but will return later this year with its spin-off film The Immortal Man. “I love the way Steve has kept her memory and her character’s memory alive throughout this – particularly in series six and the film,” he told LADbible. “She was one of the greatest human beings and one of the greatest actors that I’ve ever encountered.

Dr Annette Clancy, an assistant professor of management at University College Dublin, isn’t convinced the case for open-plan offices is open and shut. “I’ve worked in open-plan offices and found them challenging at times,” Clancy says. A product and industrial designer, he spent years designing offices in London and in 2018 published an academic paper about open-plan offices. “So they will have to look at how to make open-plan offices work better for people.”He advises employers to start with acoustics. “Seize the opportunity to share ideas and build alliances, particularly with new employees, who can find large open-plan offices intimidating.”

Mourners gathered at Dunblane Cemetery on Friday morning to pay their respects to the 16 children and their teacher who were murdered at Dunblane Primary School on March 13 1996. A number of the bouquets had cards with messages expressing grief and sorrow at the incident. Among the items are two letters from the late Diana, Princess of Wales, to the school’s headteacher Ron Taylor. “That’s just a tiny, tiny fraction of everything that exists in terms of gifts and letters and cards that were sent to Dunblane after the shooting,” she said. She said the ultimate aim is to find a permanent home for the collection “so that people know about what happened”.
