The toll also includes Palestinians killed by strikes since the truce took hold, which Israel says target remaining militants. Israel on Saturday returned the remains of another 15 Palestinians to Gaza, according to hospital officials in the strip, a day after militants returned the remains of a hostage to Israel. For each Israeli hostage returned, Israel has been releasing the remains of 15 Palestinians. Palestinians on Saturday checked the newly returned remains. Israel’s military on Saturday said soldiers killed two militants who had approached troops, one in northern Gaza and the other in the south.

“These lovely small towns,” he told Rogan, “in England, Scotland and Ireland, they’ve been sort of living their lives quietly. But the reason they’ve been able to enjoy the Shire is because hard men have protected them from the dangers of the world. That view draws energy both from paranoiac conspiracy theories and from actual, and actually horrifying, instances of violent crime, including rape. Musk went on to allude to a recent high-profile case of alleged child sexual assault in this country, involving a 10-year-old girl who went missing from Tusla care. The suspect, in his 20s and originally from Africa, came to the country seeking international protection some six years ago.

Eddie Jones believes Japan were in a position to beat Ireland after a strong first half performance in Aviva Stadium. “We put ourselves in a position to win the game in the first half. We gave Ireland a lot of ball in good positions and they looked good.”Jones also bemoaned the referee Gianluca Gnecchi’s interpretation of knock-on. After half an hour backrow Nick Timoney ran in for an Irish try after the Japanese team seemed to freeze in expectation of a knock-on. “The try the seven [Timoney] scored we just stopped, anticipating the referee was going to call a knock on,” said Jones.

Transition is always difficult, particularly when it involves not just a change of players but of style. An interview Pep Guardiola gave to TNT in January seems increasingly important in outlining how he saw the future of football. City’s leading scorer in the league this season after Haaland is Maxime Estève, who scored two own goals in City’s 5-1 win over Burnley in September. Liverpool's Conor Bradley in action against Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior during Tuesday's Champions League game at Anfield. The Liverpool XI against Aston Villa last Saturday featured 10 players who were at the club last season, plus Hugo Ekitiké.

Pop-up and “collab” restaurant experiences, where chefs appear in another kitchen or location for a night or longer, have become increasingly common in the Irish food sector. “I love doing pop-ups and collaborations because it’s a great opportunity to test yourself in an unfamiliar kitchen and maybe work on a specific menu theme,” she says. As with most such events, diners will have the opportunity to speak to both chefs over courses. “It’s great for the team here to see what other chefs are doing and to get to know guys on Kevin’s team,” he says. “But I really enjoy doing pop-ups because they are a great way to explore a different style of food.

One hundred years after forerunner 2RN made the first test transmissions of its new radio service, RTÉ will go live on Monday with its “refreshed” weekday schedule on Radio 1. But is this a dramatic “Newstalkification” of Radio 1 designed to attract younger listeners by being brasher and less formal? We weren’t aware that this level of a shake-up was on the cards, actually,” says Hannon over Zoom. David McCullagh will present Today with David McCullagh on RTÉ Radio 1. If that’s not possible in RTÉ, where is it possible in Irish media?”How public-service radio should sound has always been contested.

Yet American democracy remains imperilled. To win, Mamdani had to defeat New York’s Democratic establishment, trouncing veteran Democratic politician Andrew Cuomo in both the primary and the general election. In Mamdani’s vision, democracy is not simply something to be defended from Trump but something that still needs to be achieved. And yet the overall effect of extreme partisan gerrymandering is detrimental to American democracy, providing fewer Americans with real alternatives at the ballot box and further polarising the American polity. It is a painful fact that in order to combat the short-term threat to American democracy, Trump’s opponents must undermine its long-term foundations.

Tesla shareholders have approved a package that could make Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire. A new working paper, The Musk Partisan Effect on Tesla Sales, calculates that between October 2022 (when Musk acquired Twitter) and April 2025, Tesla sales in the US would have been 67 to 83 per cent higher without Musk’s “partisan effect” – equivalent to up to 1.26 million additional vehicles. His political interventions also boosted rival electric and hybrid vehicle sales by 17 to 22 per cent, the authors add, while potentially putting California’s zero-emissions vehicle targets at risk. The study finds that by the first quarter of 2025, monthly sales figures for Tesla would have been about 150 per cent higher were it not for Musk. The study looks only at US data, but the European picture is much bleaker for Tesla.

The Fifa president will be awarding it for the first time at the draw for the 2026 World Cup in Washington on December 5th. The Fifa Peace Prize. But now that Infantino has magicked up a Fifa Peace Prize, perhaps we should start thinking of Machado as a latter-day Howard Wilkinson, the last winner of the old First Division. US president Donald Trump waves a red card as he meets Fifa president Gianni Infantino in the Oval Office of the White House. So maybe who cares if Fifa have to invent a fake peace prize to keep him onside for a few months?

While it may be stretching things to say that Caelan Doris is a changed man after his injury-enforced six-month absence, by the same token he’s certainly not quite the same. “It was rotator cuff (injury), so it wasn’t a dislocation. “It was Friday to Friday, seven days,” Doris explained, admitting that after a day to get accustomed to being without electric devices, he loved the process. “I met up with some boarders from school, and went to Biarritz and San Sebastián with them for a long weekend. By processing it, feeling the upset and then turning the page quite quickly and seeing what good could come from it.

What will the new president and the Ceann Comhairle be wearing? It was left to the Ceann Comhairle to fly the flag for Dáil Éireann. The Dublin North West deputy ran the recent Dublin marathon in just under three hours, blowing his political rivals out of the water. “Unlike Jim Gavin, you’ll finish this race!”And if Sinn Féin had an excellent presidential election, the party had a great Dublin marathon too. But the party pointed to Monaghan county councillor Aidan Campbell, a member of Blayney Rockets AC, who has run every Dublin marathon since 1994.

But at least Ireland problem solved at the break, when only leading 17-10, to pull clear with four unanswered tries in the second half. But when the lineout did click, it made the game look much, much easier for Ireland. Ireland's Sam Prendergast celebrates as Tommy O'Brien runs in to score his sides sixth try of the match. Photograph: Gary Carr/InphoThe 17-10 scoreline was a fairer reflection of the first half and Ireland were in a spot of bother. But there was no doubt that Sam Prendergast got the attack moving as well as finding the corners with his penalties in trademark style.

“It meant I can carry on doing strange things,” Olivia Laing tells me from their home in Suffolk. Laing is best known for genre-defying books that blend memoir, essay, history and biography. In all my work, I’m interested in fluidity, complexity, ambivalence, and that’s true politically and socially too.”[ Olivia Laing: ‘People find it hard to grasp things like racism, or misogyny, because they genuinely can’t see they exist’Opens in new window ]This fluidity, as Laing says, runs through their work. So we might be surprised that Laing’s new book – the purpose of our discussion today – is a more traditional novel. “We’re not perverts,” Donati tells him, “we’re labourers in the dream factory!”“There’s a lot of teasing of each other,” Laing says.

And it caused a giant explosion in my marriage, the shrapnel of which is still strewn about the house. Things such as weekly hours of household work, weekly hours of care work, weekly hours of leisure and socialising. The BIA survey gave me that knowledge. The Basic Income for Artists has given me many things; far, far more than I could have ever expected. In my next, and final BIA survey, my answers will look different.
