The HSE has confirmed the death of a man from measles, the first case in Ireland this year. The HSE’s Health Protection Surveillance Centre said the person died in a hospital in the Dublin and Midlands Health Region. It said public health teams, along with the HSE Measles National Incident Management Team (IMT), are taking all necessary public health actions in relation to the case. The team was established in response to a recent rise in measles cases in the UK and mainland Europe. MMR vaccine uptake in Ireland is currently below the World Health Organisation recommended target uptake of 95 per cent.

Erik ten Hag confident Man Utd can cope without injured Lisandro MartinezBy Eleanor Crooks, PAErik Ten Hag is confident Manchester United’s encouraging run will not be derailed by Lisandro Martinez’s knee injury. “As a squad, we have to replace him and we have very good players in that position who can play there and will play there. “I’m quite confident we can keep this process going, that others can fulfil that position and also contribute, play in high levels. Martinez attempted to play on after initially going down, but Ten Hag does not believe that had an effect on the eventual diagnosis. “I’ve said to the team from the start of January, every game is now a final,” said Ten Hag.

Ireland named and shamed as one of five countries not to have ratifiedIreland has received a warning from the European Commission for not yet ratifying EU rules against terrorist content online. The warning comes after the European Commission said it would investigate whether X, the company formerly known as Twitter, is breaking EU law by allowing illegal and terrorist content online. Under the Terrorist Content Online Regulation, Ireland is required to nominate a body or authority to police and tackle terrorist content online. “Hosting service providers must remove terrorist content upon receiving a removal order from Member States' authorities within one hour and must take measures when their platforms are exposed to terrorist content,” the Commission said in its warning to Ireland. It’s the second time in two years that Brussels has named and shamed Ireland for failure to ratify the regulation, which entered into force in June, 2022.
