The reassurance follows reports from travel companies of a sharp decline in bookings for Eastern Mediterranean destinations including Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, amid fears they could be affected by the ongoing Middle East conflict. Yet Turkish tourism officials have been keen to emphasise that the nation continues to be a safe choice for visitors. Neither airports nor carriers within the nation have faced shutdowns, constraints or diversions owing to "regional events". Turkey is urging travel companies and reservation platforms to "actively sell" getaways for the 2026 summer period.

Shrapnel from an Iranian rocket interception landed on Israel’s main oil refinery complex in Haifa bay on Thursday night. Photograph: Odd Andersen/AFP/GettyUS president Donald Trump said on Thursday he had told Israel not to repeat its attacks on Iranian natural gas infrastructure as tit-for-tat strikes on energy plants sent energy prices spiralling, sharply escalating the US-Israeli war on Iran. For all the justifiable outrage of callers, the pacy, heightened atmosphere that Kieran Cuddihy fosters leaves little room for meaningful insight. Not that he’s above milking an issue if it can yield some tasty controversy, as underlined by Wednesday’s programme. “It’s not a bit of craic; it’s extremely upsetting,” says Bernie, who witnessed the float in the Ballinrobe parade. Ronnie O’Sullivan made the highest break in professional snooker by hitting a 153 at the World Open. The 50-year-old achieved the feat after leaving quarter-final opponent Ryan Day in a snooker at the start of the opening frame and the Welshman’s failed attempt to get out of it handed O’Sullivan a free ball. That allowed the seven-time world champion to commence his break with the green, followed by his opening black to put him on eight points before even beginning on the reds. O’Sullivan then reeled off the 15 reds, accompanied by 13 further blacks and two pinks before clearing up the colours to land a record-breaking 153. His rapid start paved the way for a dominant 5-0 victory as O’Sullivan stormed into the semi-finals in China.

They should be told that they are not worthy of wearing the national team jersey. National team players should be people who proudly belt out the national anthem and deserve to wear the Iran jersey.' Misaghi was speaking against the backdrop of pictures of a ceremony welcoming the Iranian women's national team back to Tehran on their return from Australia.
