A screenshot from a TikTok video by @amgigimserembo showing an ‘Epstein Files’ float during the Ballinrobe St Patrick's Day paradeA St Patrick’s Day parade float with a Jeffrey Epstein theme has been criticised as “extremely insensitive to victims and survivors” of sexual violence. “The float is further evidence of a lack of awareness of the impact of sexual violence and of the harm and trauma it causes,” its chief executive Rachel Morrogh said. “Parading acts of sexual violence through our main streets and turning rape and assault into a joke trivialises and stigmatises the experiences of victims and survivors.”Morrogh said the situation also sent survivors a harmful message that sexual violence was something to make light of. This float and the message it sends reinforces those concerns.”In a statement, the Ballinrobe St Patrick’s Day parade committee apologised for the float’s inclusion. “As members of this community, as parents, and as volunteers, we want to state clearly that we condemn sexual violence, abuse and exploitation in all forms,” it said.

We drove on Edinburgh's 'worst roads' and it was so grim we never want to againWe took to some of the capital's 'worst roads' for an experiment. Reporters drive through Edinburgh's 'worst roads'If there's one thing the people of Edinburgh like to have a collective moan about, it's the state of the city's roads. We took to some of the capital's "worst roads" for an experiment - if somebody was a passenger drinking their morning coffee, how much would they spill? With very few driveways, the residents of its plush properties face parking on the uneven surface every day. Other parts of the street had been left with an uneven surface following roadworks, with potholes galore.

This week has seen a flurry of outrage following the presence of an ‘Epstein Files’ float in St Patrick’s Day Parades in Mayo and Galway respectively. Read More St Patrick’s Day float referencing Epstein files draws condemnationA few days previously I watched Louis Theroux’s new Inside the Manosphere documentary. The Epstein files float made light of the sexual abuse of girls and women, and at worst promoted rape as something to joke about. The type of man who, no doubt, would have sniggered at the Epstein Files float. Misogyny is normalised, and the abuse of girls and women is apparently something to joke about, as we saw up west on St Patrick’s Day.

Princess Anne has built a reputation for tastefully redeploying outfits years apart, with the habit earning her the unofficial title 'Queen of Royal Recycling'. But Wednesday evening surely marked the pinnacle of her recycling career, after the Princess Royal strode into St George's Hall wearing a coat first seen a staggering 57 years ago. The Princess, 75, slipped into a floor-length, cream-coloured coat to attend the banquet at Windsor Castle, hosted by the King to honour the first Nigerian state visit in almost 40 years. As a teenager, the Princess Royal wore the front of the coat open - revealing an underlayer that was patterned both around the collar and by the lower hem. There is also the lilac coat, which made an appearance at least six times on royal duties between 1982 and 2004.

One element of Randi Gladstone's unsuccessful appeal was described by the court judge as 'extraordinary'. Photograph: Collins CourtsThe Court of Appeal has rejected an “extraordinary” claim put forward by a Guyanese sex offender, who had only been in Ireland for two weeks before he falsely imprisoned and raped an 18-year-old woman. In dismissing the appeal by Randi Gladstone (42), Judge Brian O’Moore pointed out that the appellant’s own legal team had agreed to withdraw Gladstone’s evidence. The court heard Gladstone lured the young woman into his room, where he falsely imprisoned and raped her. The court heard Gladstone flew from Suriname to Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands and arrived in Ireland on August 11th, 2023.

Early insight nitrogen concentration data show a provisional 10% increase in nitrogen levels in 2025. Among the 20 representative sites along major rivers in the Munster region are the Maigue, Deel, Shannon, Fergus Suir, Blackwater, Lee and Bandon sites. The representative sites are established to provide a “conservative estimate” of a national nitrogen concentration figure; the EPA expects the national figures to show an increase in nitrogen levels for 2025. Factors influencing nitrogen levels and their fluctuation include weather patterns, agricultural land management, and source loading. EPA highlighted three key factors influencing the uptick in nitrogen levels between 2024 and 2025 as the increase of fertiliser sales, a reduction in livestock numbers and wetter weather.

Thomas Tuchel can only hope that the players delivered to him in May are in a better place than he finds them in March. And this is the area of the pitch where England are supposed to have an embarrassment of riches. But keeping the door shut at the World Cup will be the German’s biggest worry, given the current state of his defence. The former is playing very well but has never featured under Tuchel for England, the latter has only just returned from injury. That is the spine of Tuchel’s team and he must hope their backbone is strong, given the heavy lifting anticipated.

Iran will “boycott America, but not the World Cup”, the president of the country’s football federation is reported to have said. US president Donald Trump has said it would not be “appropriate” for Iran to play at the World Cup (Julia Demaree Nikhinson/AP)The Press Association understands that as of Thursday morning, nothing had been communicated to FIFA by the Iranian federation regarding the relocation of Iran’s matches. Even if Iran’s group games were moved, there would still be an issue with subsequent knockout matches. If Iran and the US finish second in their group, for example, the sides would meet in Dallas on July 3. US president Donald Trump said last week it would not be “appropriate” for Iran to play at the World Cup “for their life and safety”.

Ronnie O’Sullivan admitted cueing problems left him scared of playing snooker after he advanced to his 150th ranking quarter-final at the World Open. O’Sullivan has spent time away from competition to rebuild his game and technique, and the hard work paid off with an impressive 5-3 victory over Shaun Murphy in Yushan. “If I can get my cue through the ball I will be alright,” O’Sullivan was quoted as saying on the World Snooker Tour website. For me to be able to go out there and not feel scared is a victory. O’Sullivan will meet Welshman Ryan Day in his first quarter-final appearance since making the final of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters last August.

A father paid a friend to take a DNA test in a bid to avoid paying child maintenance fees for a baby he had with an ex-girlfriend, a court has heard. The mother did not tell Lloyd about the child's birth until 2023, when she made an application to the Child Maintenance Service naming him as the father. He strongly denied this was the case, refused to take a DNA test and even went as far as to claim he had no idea who the mother was. Prosecutor Harry Dickens told Cardiff Crown Court that the result of the DNA test was negative, though Lloyd's former partner refuted this claim, sparking an investigation. Mr Dickens said the potential loss to the Child Maintenance Service and the victims was in the region of £12,426.
