These can prevent users from getting an accurate picture of their health and can nudge people towards continuing to drink, academics suggested. The study identified contradictory messaging that could increase alcohol consumption on six industry-backed tools, while alcohol was framed as normal and social on seven industry tools and one non-industry tool. Industry-backed platforms included information on the likes of mental health problems caused by alcohol, or social consequences such as missed work days. However, non-industry backed tools included these harms and more, such as the risk of physical or psychological harm like brain damage or addiction. Elsewhere, some tools, such as the Drinkaware unit calculator, misled users by suggesting only drinking above “binge levels” was harmful, researchers said.

Nature is in "free fall" as a result of human activity, with global wildlife populations falling by nearly three quarters in 50 years, conservationists warn. The latest edition of the Living Planet Index compiled by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) warns monitored global populations of amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and reptiles have seen an average decline of 73% in 50 years. The declines have been driven by human activities such as habitat destruction for food production, and are now being compounded by climate change. The Living Planet Index, which draws on data from 35,000 population trends and 5,495 species shows Latin America and the Caribbean have seen the fastest declines in wildlife, with average wildlife populations drop 95% in 50 years. The report highlights tumbling populations for creatures from nesting female hawksbill turtles in the Great Barrier Reef to Amazon pink river dolphins in Brazil.

The leaders discussed the ongoing war in the Middle East and Mr Harris expressed to the students that Ireland had its own history of conflict. Drawing parallels with the conflict in Northern Ireland, the Taoiseach said that Irish people believed “that peace is always possible”. Mr Harris said: “When we speak up about the terrible conflict ongoing in the Middle East we are watching our own history reflected back at us and remembering our own story of suffering. “And therefore, there are real parallels that we can see in the plight and the struggle of the Palestinian people.”Reflecting on his trip, Mr Harris said he is “very grateful” to have spent a significant amount of time with Mr Biden. “But we also had an opportunity to discuss the role that we need the United States to continue to play in terms of the Good Friday Agreement on the prosperity agenda.”
