No-one will have been more relieved at their intervention than Ireland skipper Collins, whose blunder had set up Venezia striker Pohjanpalo. Joel Pohjanpalo put Finland ahead (Antti Aimo-Koivisto/Lehtikuva via AP)However, the hosts were handed a 17th-minute lead when Collins left his back-pass to Kelleher woefully short and Pohjanpalo pounced to beat the keeper with ease. The visitors thought they had levelled within four minutes when Evan Ferguson converted Collins’ knock-down from a Brady free-kick, but the flag had gone up in the meantime. However, Knight tested Hradecky from distance within two minutes of the restart and it took Schuller’s well-timed intervention to deny Ferguson after Scales, Brady and Szmodics had linked fluently. Brady curled the free-kick to the far post where Scales climbed above defender Arttu Hoskonen to head firmly back across Hradecky to level.

Drop: US inflation declined to 2.4 per cent in September, down from 2.5 per cent in AugustUS inflation is at a three-and-a-half year low in the latest sign that the cost-of-living crisis that has plagued the world is being brought under control. Inflation fell to 2.4 per cent in September, down from 2.5 per cent in August, cementing expectations that the US Federal Reserve will not repeat September's half-percentage point interest rate cut in November. US jobs figures last week, and comments from Fed chief Jerome Powell that it was not 'in a hurry' to cut rates, had already dampened hopes of another jumbo move. Lindsay James, investment strategist at Quilter Investors, said the fall in inflation 'should be enough to crack on with a quarter-point rate cut'. In the eurozone, officials are signalling a likely third rate cut of the year while the Bank of England is cautious, with chief economist Huw Pill warning against cuts 'too far or too fast'.

Photo: Ger RogersFox goes the extra mile for Ferbane and hopes to make it countBy Kevin EganIt’s a Tuesday night in October, and Leon Fox has made the trip from Drogheda to Ferbane, because his club senior team has just been training for this Sunday’s county final against Tullamore (4pm). Throughout the summer, he’s been up and down for either Ferbane or Belmont, following on from a winter and spring when he did the same for the Offaly hurlers. Fox admitted that Ferbane “stumbled through the group stages”, adding that in addition to the narrow defeat to Shamrocks, both Durrow and Edenderry should have beaten his side. And if they don't, Leon Fox will be back on the road next year anyway.

Its provocative scenes left theatregoers reeling, with 18 suffering with nausea and shock and requiring assistance over the first two performances. Extreme performance artist Florentina Holzinger is behind the astonishing adaptation, which sees its all-female cast playing nuns who strip off their habits throughout the 'sensual, poetic and wild' show. The opera company recommends the performance to viewers who are 'daringly looking for new theatrical experiences.' Religious orders will not ‘get off the hook’ over abuse again, Taoiseach pledgesBy Cillian Sherlock, PAThe Government is pursuing legislation to make sure religious orders do not “get off the hook” over historical abuse, the Taoiseach has said. It comes after the announcement that a commission of investigation is to be established to examine historical sexual abuse claims. Almost 2,400 allegations of historical sexual abuse were recorded by 308 schools run by religious orders across Ireland, a Government-ordered scoping inquiry revealed. He said he believed there was a wide consensus in the Dáil to follow the recommendations of the Mary O’Toole report, which said a mechanism should be put in place to make sure religious orders contribute. “We’ll decide how sincere that sorrow is depending on what they do next.”Mr Harris said he believed options to pursue payments from religious orders will require legislation.

The consumer group said it has found a number of risks posed by existing phone numbers that get recycled and taken on by other consumers. It said the issue is that many new numbers given out by telecoms firms in the UK are recycled from previous owners because there is a fixed pool of 11-digit combinations, with customer demand fuelling this recycling process. said it also had reports of people being bombarded with calls and messages from debt collectors or people contacting users trying to buy drugs from them. tech editor, said: “Our research shows that recycled phone numbers can cause significant problems for both the previous owner of the number and the new recipient – from the risk of being hacked to losing an emergency phone line or receiving worrying unsolicited messages. “Ofcom should aim to improve the way providers communicate that a number is at risk of deactivation and look into the issues that recycled numbers are causing consumers.”
