Faced with rising costs, increased compliance burdens, and reduced flexibility, many small landlords are choosing to exit the market altogether. Over recent years, there has been a steady increase in the turnover of small landlords, contributing to a contraction in rental supply. Without a significant increase in housing supply, no amount of regulation will resolve the underlying imbalance. In the end, building more homes — not increasing interference in the rental market — is the only durable path to stability.

Cork man to be sentenced next week for killing elderly hospital patient
Sentencing of a 33-year-old hospital patient who punched an 88-year-old patient to death at Mercy University Hospital will go ahead on March 27, it emerged on Thursday as it was confirmed that the pre-sentencing probation report would be available. Defence senior counsel Brendan Grehan confirmed that the probation report would be available at the Central Criminal Court in Cork next Friday.
