Once top-secret CIA files have detailed America's plans to control the world by manipulating the weather. One post on X claimed: 'The CIA has been poisoning the sky and controlling the weather since 1965!' Johnson's endorsement of the CIA's weather modification project came just three years after he gave an ominous speech on the future of America and the work to create 'weather satellites' with the power to strengthen storms. While giving the commencement address at Southwest Texas State University in May 1962, then-Vice President Johnson said: 'He who controls the weather will control the world.' The US government has maintained that weather modification has been used only to help weaken dangerous storms and induce rain in drought-stricken areas.

Spectacular footage has captured lava from a volcano on a French island making contact with the ocean for the first time in years. Since the Piton de la Fournaise volcano erupted last month on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, molten rock has been slowly creeping towards the shore. The scalding lava vaporises the water into steam, casting mystical shrouds back over the island, while the rock solidifies and grows the size of the island. Mesmerised crowds have gathered to watch the natural phenomenon, which the island has not seen for almost 19 years. They are using drones and thermometers - applied directly to the lava - to track its flow and measure its temperature.

Austrian bank BAWAG said on Wednesday it has submitted a non-binding proposal to acquire Irish bank Permanent TSB as part of a sales process launched last October. BAWAG said the proposal could lead to an offer but that was undecided at this stage. Earlier, PTSB said BAWAG was one of a number of parties interested in the group. "PTSB is an important part of the retail banking sector and wider Irish economy, and its continued sustainable growth is critical to ensuring competition in the market and providing choice to consumers. There is no impact to customers as a result of this announcement, and PTSB’s operations, products and services remain unaffected by the Formal Sale Process.

Gunners No2 Kepa, who is set to play in the Carabao Cup final, believes success in the Carabao Cup final can give them a taste for winning - and put them in the mood for more success. Arsenal are nine points clear of City at the top of the Premier League, they are into the Carabao Cup final and have a quarter final FA Cup tie at Southampton ahead of them. Kepa, the penalty shot-out hero in the quarter final win over Crystal Palace, will bring his own experience into the game and is preparing to relish the opportunity. Obviously, it’s going to be a tough game, a very difficult game, but we’ll go for it. I have played in the League Cup final before, but I have played many finals in my career, I have been lucky in that way.

Brussels calls for faster planning, will Ireland listen? Recently, the European Parliament backed proposals aimed at accelerating housing delivery, including faster planning approvals, tax incentives for development and measures designed to reduce regulatory barriers that slow construction. This conversation is long overdue in Ireland, where housing supply remains a decade behind demand. The European Parliament’s call for faster planning approvals reflects a growing recognition that bureaucracy has become one of the hidden drivers of housing shortages across the continent. Brussels is signalling urgency through shorter planning deadlines, streamlined environmental assessments and simplified approval frameworks intended to unlock housing projects much faster.

It came at the start of the president’s address to the annual Speakers’ Friends of Ireland Luncheon at Capitol Hill on Tuesday. “For me it was all about making sure that Northern Ireland was on his radar in a very positive way, so I talked about why we are here this week. “I outlined that the Northern Ireland economy is growing, there is so much potential for Northern Ireland, and referred back to the very long and shared history and heritage that we have as well, from all of those Ulster-Scots or Scots-Irish, so instrumental in the drafting and of course the writing of the Declaration of Independence. During his address, Sir Christian hailed the “vibrancy” and “transformation” in Northern Ireland through teamwork and commitment to peace. “It today stands as a real engine in the economy, and such a great place to invest,” he said.
