The West Africa Centre for Counter Extremism (WACCE) has said that the recent terrorist attack in Togo must serve as a wakeup call to the security apparatus in Ghana. WACCE said the attack which claimed the lives of eight soldiers implies that the activities of terrorist and jihadist groups are getting closer and closer to the borders of Ghana. The Executive Director of WACCE, Mutaru Mumuni, in an interview with Citi News, said that the attack in Togo poses a major security threat to Ghana. He said the security agencies in the country should as a matter of urgency start taking proactive steps to fight terrorism. The terrorist attack in Togo which happened in the northern part of the country was the first of such attacks and it killed 8 soldiers and wounded 13 of them.

The national coordinator of the National Boundary Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia, has cautioned government not to underrate threats of terrorist attacks. Some drivers at the Kaneshie station at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange speaking to GhanaWeb narrated how their colleague driver died as a result of the current economic hardship. The driver who was known by his colleagues as ‘Red’ is said to have hinted at committing suicide, adding that he was tired of the current hardship, which he was talked out of by his colleagues. His colleagues added that he was a family man with children; one of his children in Senior High School. His colleague drivers have resorted to using red bands on their heads to protest against the economic hardship which might have been the cause of his death.
