Bulgaria investigates fire at weapons site that owner calls sabotage
Bulgaria is investigating the cause of an overnight fire at an ammunition storage site run by a private defence company. EMCO company, whose weapons are used by Ukraine against invading Russian forces, said the fire at its site was sabotage and that human error was "completely ruled out". It cited a number of similar incidents at Bulgarian defence firms since 2011, saying that the latest was "no exception to the series of acts of sabotage against the Bulgarian defence industry". Bulgaria is a major weapons supplier to Ukraine, as it continues to repel a full-scale Russian invasion launched in 2022. And although Sofia has recently halted state-owned arms supplies to Ukraine, Bulgarian private defence companies continue such transfers.

Tens of thousands protest against far-right AfD party in Germany
About 150,000 demonstrators took to the streets in around 20 cities across Germany on Saturday against the far-right AfD, after the party scored a crushing victory in a state election last week. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) topped the vote in the eastern region of Saxony-Anhalt, and is now seeking to form the first extreme-right state government in Germany since World War II.

Kenya: Crocodiles pushed towards homes by rising lakes
Climate change is forcing Kenya's wildlife officers to go on a crocodile hunt on the shores of Lake Baringo in a bid to curb growing human-wildlife conflict.
