Ethiopia Expects Increased FDI Flow Amid Policy Reform
Economic policy reforms designed to liberalize Ethiopia's economic structures and foreign exchange system are expected to stimulate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows, according to Investment Commissioner. Speaking at the second Ethio-China Friendship Cooperation Forum, Commissioner Hanna Aryasellassie highlighted that Ethiopia's macroeconomic policy reforms are designed to attract FDI. Ethiopia, which has seen rapid growth in FDI, has opened up several sectors including energy and telecommunications. Accordingly, Commissioner Hanna invited Chinese firms to invest in Ethiopia utilizing the new macroeconomic policies and government incentives. Mentioning Ethiopia's significant achievements in attracting FDI, the Commissioner has reaffirmed her government's commitment to explore investment opportunities with Chinese government and companies.

Ethiopia to save $4.9 billion from debt restructuring, says state finance minister
NAIROBI (Reuters) - Ethiopia will save $4.9 billion from its debt restructuring exercise, State Finance Minister Eyob Tekalign said on Friday. The East African country is putting its long-delayed debt overhaul back on track after securing a new International Monetary Fund financing programme. "It is captured fully in the OCC (Official Creditor Committee) working paper. But we will sign and finalise with each individual country over the course of the next few months," Eyob told Reuters. Pakistan, Ethiopia to boost bilateral relations
Pakistan and Ethiopia, on Thursday, agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new collaborations in trade, finance, education, and economic reforms, acknowledging the mutual benefits of such initiatives. According to a press release from the finance ministry, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, Jemal Beker Abdula, met with Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday. The finance minister extended a warm welcome to Abdula and provided an overview of the economic reforms underway in Pakistan, aimed at achieving economic stability. The minister noted that international rating agencies have started acknowledging Pakistan’s economic stability, with recent Fitch reports confirming an improved economic outlook. The Ethiopian envoy proposed exploring educational cooperation, specifically promoting student exchange and scholarship programmes to provide Ethiopian students with opportunities to study in Pakistan.

Ethiopian officials’ official push back against critics of the MoU were in response to statements of condemnation from Egypt and the Arab League countries, while it continued maintaining its position to see through the MoU. However, there has since been no update from the Ethiopian side on the status of the MoU, which has generated backlash from the government of neighboring Somalia and subsequent diplomatic rows.

Kh Asif, Ethiopian envoy discuss defence, aviation cooperation
ISLAMABAD - Minister for Defence and Defence Production, Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday called on the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) where both dignitaries mulled over various avenues to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in different areas such as defence and aviation. The matter of such utmost importance came under discussion during a meeting between Special Envoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of FDR Ethiopia, Jemal Beker Abdula, and Minister for Defence and Aviation who also holds the portfolio of Defence Production, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, an Ethiopian Embassy news release said. Both sides also discussed full spectrum of ongoing bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Khawaja Asif expressed his government’s commitment to increase its presence in the African continent of more than 1.4 billion people with untapped resources. He also apprised the minister about relief and rescue efforts carried out in Gofa region of Ethiopia for permanent relocation of the affected persons.

Methane slip being eliminated as LNG uptake accelerates
Industry coalition SEA-LNG has underlined the significant progress being made to eradicate methane slip as uptake of the LNG pathway accelerates. With continued collaborative efforts across the value chain, methane slip will be eliminated for all engine technologies within the decade. These engines have effectively eliminated slip already. For low-pressure engine technologies where methane slip remains an issue, manufacturers have already cut the levels of slip from low-pressure 4-stroke engines by more than 85% over the past 25 years. It is worth noting that methane slip has been eradicated for the similar LNG dual-fuel engine technologies used in the heavy-duty vehicle sector.
