Qatar Flight Delhi-Doha Diverts to Dubai Due to Pilot Dying

Israel appoints envoy for Ethiopian aliyah crisis
The Israeli government has appointed a special envoy to investigate and then to recommend a solution for the aliyah crisis from Ethiopia. There are thousands of Ethiopian citizens who claim they are entitled for aliyah and the Israeli government says that the aliyah from this country has ended. Earlier this week, Israeli citizens of Ethiopian descent and advocates for Ethiopian Jewish immigration assembled outside the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem. Israel executed rescue operation last week from GondarLast Thursday, Israel executed a significant rescue operation, evacuating over 200 Israeli and Ethiopian nationals from Ethiopia due to the intensifying conflict between the Ethiopian Army and the FANO militia. The rescue comprised three planes which transported Israeli citizens, Jewish Agency personnel, Project TEN volunteers, and immigrants.

It represents the way I feel about the darkness that is happening in Sudan," saidAbdelrahman Abdalla, a Sudanese artist. Supporting artists has become almost monumental because Sudanese art is undergoing a renaissance especially with the ongoing conflicts. In a joint appeal, the heads of 20 global organisations pointed out that "more than six million Sudanese people are one step away from famine". - 'No excuse' -"There is no excuse for waiting," said the statement, pointing out that two appeals for aid to help some 19 million Sudanese "are just over 27-percent funded".

Ethiopia: News - Recent Conflict in Amhara Causes 2.5 Billion Birr Loss, Job Cuts As Industries Suffer Damages
Addis Abeba — A recent conflict in the Amhara region between the federal government and a non-state armed group known as Fano has wreaked havoc on local industries, leading to damages. Amhara Industry and Investment Bureau announced yesterday that over 3,000 permanent workers lost their jobs due to the damage that occurred in industries. In a recent interview, Abate Getahun, the Director of the Amhara Region Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Redevelopment Fund Office, disclosed to Addis Standard that the estimated cost of rebuilding the war-ravaged areas in the Amhara region surpasses a staggering half a trillion birr. For months, tension and sporadic clashes have engulfed large parts of the Amhara region, which is the second-largest regional economy after Oromia. The dire situation has prompted Yelikal Kefale, the President of the restive Amhara region, to request the intervention of the federal government.

They will also be able to buy airtime and transfer money between their bank accounts and mobile money wallets. Icrc Delivers Urgent Medical Supplies To Ethiopia's Amhara Region
Over the past week, heavy fighting has spread across Amhara region, home to Ethiopia's second-largest ethnic group. In early August, Amhara Fano militia fighters briefly seized several towns and cities, before being recaptured by the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF). Due to the security situation in the Amhara region, many health facilities have not been able to replenish supplies, while ambulances could not move quickly to respond to emergencies in the most affected areas, ICRC said in a Wednesday statement. The deliveries of assistance included intravenous fluids, suture materials, antibiotics, painkillers, gloves, orthopaedic and fracture repair materials, physiotherapy materials, surgical drainage tubes, anaesthesia consumables and dressing materials such as gauze and bandages. The ICRC has also assisted with the transportation of blood supplies provided by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.

M-Pesa Goes Live in Ethiopia
Safaricom’s mobile money service M-Pesa, has officially launched its operations in Ethiopia, three months after the telco received a license from the National Bank of Ethiopia. Safaricom Ethiopia said M-Pesa underwent a three-month pilot and testing phase where technical readiness was established, crucial partnerships with local banks were forged, and a network of M-Pesa agents was recruited, trained, and onboarded. With a population of 120 million people, Ethiopia is poised to fuel significant growth for the mobile money platform. Safaricom was the first private telecommunications provider to enter Ethiopia, a market dominated by the state-controlled Ethio Telecom. By July of this year, Ethio Telecom had already garnered more than 34 million subscribers for its mobile money service, Telebirr.

Nigeria's NNPC obtains a $3 billion loan to stabilize the foreign exchange market
The biggest economy in Africa, Nigeria has been trying to increase its reserves and stop the decline of its currency, which has fallen to record lows on the black market two months after trading restrictions were loosened on the official market. Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu to examine methods to increase dollar liquidity on the official market, acting central bank governor Folashodun Shonubi said on Monday that the bank will take actions that will have an impact on currency markets in the coming days. Shonubi said the president was worried about the black market rate serving as a reference rate for domestic use and its influence on inflation, but did not specify what steps were going to be taken. Threats to Peace and Security in Mali
Matthew Miller, Department SpokespersonThe United States is deeply concerned about the threat of worsening violence in Mali as the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission there (MINUSMA) begins its withdrawal. Attacks as recently as August 13, which resulted in several injured peacekeepers, highlight that threat and the importance of all Malian parties settling their differences peacefully and in accordance with the 2015 Algiers Peace Accord. We urge all parties to facilitate MINUSMA’s drawdown, withdrawal, and liquidation. Attacks on UN peacekeepers are unacceptable, and we condemn such violence and the larger threat posed by armed actors operating throughout Mali. We stand with the people of Mali in support of a future defined by peace, security, and prosperity.

AU chief calls for ceasefire and dialogue in Amhara region
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has expressed “grave concern” over the continued military confrontations taking place in Ethiopia’s Amhara region. He has called for an “immediate ceasefire.”In a statement issued today from Addis Ababa, Mahamat said he is closely following the situation. He reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to upholding Ethiopia’s “constitutional order, territorial integrity, unity and national sovereignty.”The AU chief strongly urged all parties to “cease fighting immediately and ensure civilian protection.” He further called on them to “engage in dialogue to reach a peaceful solution.”- Advertisement -Mahamat said stability is needed in Ethiopia and the wider region. He reiterated the AU’s readiness to “support an inter-Ethiopian initiative aimed at establishing peace and stability.”The statement comes amid clashes between government forces and rebel groups in Amhara region, where a state of emergency has been in effect for the past two weeks.
