U.S. Gulf Coast residents flee ‘extremely dangerous’ Hurricane Ida
(Reuters) -Hurricane Ida intensified over warm Gulf of Mexico waters on Saturday, prompting tens of thousands to flee coastal areas, while President Joe Biden pledged aid to help states quickly recover once the storm has passed. Biden on Saturday said 500 federal emergency response workers were in Texas and Louisiana to respond to the storm. Exxon Mobil Corp is cutting production by 50% at its Baton Rouge, Louisiana, refinery said sources familiar with plant operations. Ida, the ninth named storm and fourth hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, may well exceed the strength of Hurricane Laura, the last Category 4 storm to strike Louisiana, by the time it makes landfall, forecasters said. The region was devastated in August 2005 by Hurricane Katrina, which killed more than 1,800 people.

MILFORD — The man arrested this week in connection with a fatal stabbing at a Milford storage unit has had at least two people condemn him, according to court records. Massachusetts and Virginia state police arrested Christopher Tetreault, a 28-year-old Milford man, in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Tuesday. On Aug. 20, court records state, Massachusetts state troopers were able to reach Tetreault on the phone. “Tetreault told investigators that he had not been to Milford, Massachusetts, since March or April,” the document reads. But on Aug. 21, a Verizon employee confirmed that Tetreault’s cellphone “pinged” from Milford on Aug. 13 and 14.

SHERBORN — Two fox statues stolen from Rachelle "Shellie" Robin’s yard earlier this month may not have a large monetary value, but the emotions tied into them are priceless. “The fox statues meant a lot for me because they reminded me of my father. I had a fox garden created for them as a memorial for my father.”Robin bought the two fox statues at the Brimfield Flea Markets after she moved into her home in 2008. Her father, a retired Brockton police officer, had died earlier that year. Her mother, Lorraine Robin, died earlier this month.

Transgender prisoner sues Virginia Department of Corrections over denial of surgery
An incarcerated transgender man has filed a lawsuit against the Virginia Department of Corrections for discriminating against him by denying him surgery and other treatment for gender dysphoria. Jason Yoakam, who has been incarcerated at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Troy, Virginia, since 2004, was diagnosed with gender dysphoria in 2017, but has repeatedly been denied gender-affirming medical care, including mental health services and gender confirmation surgery. Yoakam was issued a chest binder after his diagnosis, but due to his gender dysphoria and discomfort with his own body, keeps it on throughout all hours of the day, except when showering. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s ruling in favor of a transgender inmate who sued Florida state officials over denial of hormone therapy. Yoakam is not seeking special treatment, just access to medically necessary health care and reasonable accommodations for his gender dysphoria,” Saenz said in a statement.

Bank of America vice chairman, COO to retire
(Reuters) – Bank of America Corp Vice Chairman Anne Finucane and Chief Operating Officer Thomas Montag will retire from their positions, the bank said in a statement on Thursday. Finucane joined Fleet Bank, which merged with Bank of America in 2004, 26 years ago. Following retirement, Finucane will assume the role of non-executive chairman at Bank of America Europe and transition to a non-executive board member role on BofA Securities Europe. He had joined as executive vice president and head of global sales and trading at Merrill Lynch in 2008, prior to it merger with BofA. Before that, Montag was with Goldman Sachs for 22 yearsBoth Finucane and Montag will become members of the bank’s Global Advisory Council after retiring.

Northborough, Southborough police warn of scams; at least $15K has been lost
Police in Northborough and Southborough say residents in their communities are being targeted in unrelated gift card scams, including one in which residents were deceived into giving up $15,000. “If anyone is asking for a gift card of any sort to pay a debt or donation or something, it’s usually a scam,” Northborough police Lt. Brian Griffin said. “The ‘Boss’ advises the victim they will be reimbursed for the purchase of the gift cards once they return to work,” Southborough police said in a statement. “Once the gift card numbers are given to the scammer, the gift cards become currency that is now in the hands of the scammer. No one should be asking you to pay with gift cards.
