June 10, 2024 —Lucy Fowler is working at the intersection of Indigenous and queer identity to make the university experience and broader community more inclusive. “We need to be making more expansive spaces … where people can express who they are, however they are, and come to that space and be welcomed,” Fowler said of her work at the university. Fowler is helping to develop a U of M Indigenous education post-doctoral program, co-founded the Pawaatamihk: Journal of Métis Thinkers academic journal, and is co-hosting a Métis studies symposium this fall with over 300 scholars expected to attend. Beyond just healthy eating, a sustainable diet needs to also consider affordability, cultural relevance and whether it's truly good for the environment, Lamarche stressed.

Thousands of members of Toronto's Jewish community marched down a major city artery on Sunday as part of an annual pro-Israel event that unfolded amid heightened security and protests along the route. The United Jewish Appeal held its annual "Walk with Israel," which involves a five-kilometre walk and a festival in the city's north end. A historic church in Toronto's west end has been "completely destroyed," along with the artifacts it housed, says the city's fire chief, as firefighters remained on scene overnight Sunday to monitor the situation. Deputy Fire Chief Jim Jessop said the building is "completely destroyed" as are all the artifacts inside. A leaky roof at Toronto's St. Anne's Anglican Church needed a $1-million repair in 1998. The fire on Sunday, which ravaged the historic church, destroyed the art on the ceiling that members of Canada's Group of Seven had contributed to.
