At least 19 dead after bus catches fire in India's Rajasthan, NDTV reportsAt least 19 people died on Tuesday afternoon when a private bus in the western Indian state of Rajasthan caught fire, Indian broadcaster NDTV said, citing the police. The Shaheed Minar at Sunamganj Government College, intertwined with the Language Movement and Liberation War, has been demolished to make way for a new “Meritorious Students’ Plaque” under the direction of the college authorities. The student wing of the BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has submitted a written appeal to the college administration, urging restoration of the Shaheed Minar to its original form. Mirpur washing facility where fire broke out ‘not part of BGMEA’The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has said the factory in Mirpur’s Rupnagar, where a deadly fire broke out, is not a member of the organisation. According to a statement from the trade body on Tuesday, the facility in Shiallbari is a washing plant, not a registered garment manufacturing unit under the association. Around 11:45am, flames swept through Shah Ali Washing Limited and a nearby chemical warehouse. By the evening, 16 burnt bodies had been recovered from the site. The BGMEA said it deeply regrets the loss of life in the fire and offered prayers for the victims, also wishing a quick recovery for those injured.

Around Dhaka’s Mirpur blaze site, families clutch photographs, hoping to find relatives missing since the deadly fire tore through a garment factory and chemical warehouse, claiming at least 16 lives. They say they have heard nothing from their loved ones since the fire broke out and that calls to their mobile phones go unanswered. The Fire Service reported all of the bodies were recovered from the second and third floors of the garment factory. A Bangladeshi man has been injured, while a Myanmar national has died in a landmine explosion along the zero line of the Alikadam border in Bandarban, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The explosion took place around 10am on Tuesday near the Poamuhuri border in Kurukpata Union of of the Upazila, said Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) Commanding Officer in Cox’s Bazar Lt Col Kazi Mahtab Uddin. A BGB media statement said the blast occurred inside Myanmar, west of border pillar number 55, at a place called Hataomogpara. Myanmar national Menthang was killed while visiting his jhum field, and Bangladeshi citizen Mensar Mro was injured in the explosion. The killed, Menthang, was a resident of Notunpara in Myanmar’s Tanglai.

The Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has removed Khagrachhari District Council Chairperson Jiruna Tripura from her post over allegations of corruption and misconduct. The decision was announced in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Mangal Chandra Pal on Tuesday afternoon. On Jul 7 this year, the ministry had ordered her to refrain from all council activities following a number of allegations. Complaints included disregard for 14 council members, inappropriate behaviour, undermining heads and staff of transferred departments, unilateral decision-making, favouritism, teacher transfer irregularities, blocking contractor bills for bribes, and other corrupt practices.
