A panel reviewing the age limits for public sector jobs has recommended raising the eligibility threshold to 35 years for men and 37 years for women. Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, chief of the Public Administration Reform Commission and head of the review committee, addressed the issue on Monday. The recommended age limit for women has been set at 37 to provide them with greater opportunities, aligning with practices in neighbouring countries. The movement to raise the age limit for entering public sector jobs began over a decade ago and has gained fresh momentum following recent political upheaval in Bangladesh. The interim government has indicated a positive stance on increasing the age limit, but the extent of the change was not immediately clear.

Authorities have handed out fines totalling Tk 9,000 to three vendors and seized 195 kg of hilsa from a market in Chandpur's Hajiganj Upazila on the first day of the ban on catching and selling the coveted fish. Executive Magistrate Rifat Jahan conducted a mobile court drive to enforce the ban during a visit to the Hajiganj market in the Balur Math area around 10pm on Sunday. The government has imposed a 22-day ban on catching, transporting and selling the fish, effective from midnight on Saturday to Nov 3, in a bid to protect juvenile and brood hilsa during its breeding season. "We fined three traders at the Hajiganj market Tk 3,000 each and confiscated 195 kg of hilsa for defying the prohibition," said Assistant Commissioner Rifat Jahan. He added that the confiscated hilsa were later distributed to various orphanages in the Upazila.

"If you think Mahfuz is alone, then you'd be making a grave mistake," Farhad said in a Facebook post on Saturday. "Those of us who are with him will continue to support him because Mahfuz did not suddenly spring from the ground. Know the society, know Mahfuz. It takes decades for a society to find a Mahfuz, Akhter, Nahid, Asif, Nusrat, Akram, Arif, Jahid, Tushar, Umama, Hasnat, Sarjis, Nazifa, Abu Baker, Tariqul, and Sanjana."
