A sepoy of Border Guard Bangladesh has died after being shot by India’s Border Security Force personnel fired their guns at Benapole border on Jashore. The body of Mohammad Raisuddin is on the Indian side of the border. BGB lodged a strong protest against the incident at a battalion commander-level flag meeting. Lt Col Ahmed Hasan Jamil, the commander of 49 BGB Battalion in Jashore, announced the news of Raisuddin’s death in a statement at midnight on Tuesday.

BRAC Bank has brought back the option to withdraw cash from ATMs with debit cards a month after suspending the feature for all cards. The services were restored on Jan 18 on customers’ demand, the bank said. They can withdraw up to $300 a day from ATMs abroad. The monthly cash withdrawal limit is $1,500. Some other banks also started preventing customers from withdrawing cash by using cards abroad.

Despite a roughing penalty on Princeton forward Sarah Fillier six minutes in, Cornell couldn’t capitalize on the power play and extend the lead. The ruling party made the decision in a meeting chaired by its chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban on Monday ahead of the announcement of schedules of Upazila council elections. Following the Jan 7 parliamentary polls, the Election Commission has hinted at announcing the schedules of the vote in around 100 Upazilas in the first phase next week. The elections are expected to be held in March. EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath had said balloting in all of nearly 500 Upazilas will be held in four to five phases.

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2024 (BSS) - As many as 30 patientswere hospitalised in the last 24 hours till this morning, according to the daily statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). "During the period, four dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city while 26 were admitted to different hospitals outside the capital city," the statement added. The total number of cases this year rose to 883 while 151 dengue patients are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country. Among the total cases, 718 patients have already been released, the DGHS statement added. Last year, the country recorded 1,705 dengue-related deaths and a total of 321,179 dengue cases.

"There was a concern in your mind that a diplomatic crisis can take place. But after the election even you people have seen that there is no such possibility of diplomatic crisis in the country," Anisul said while talking to newsmen at the ministry this afternoon. He further talked about taking help of India's experience in constructing Bangladesh's National Judicial Academy, adding, "India has its national judicial academy in Bhopal, where our 1,206 judicial officers took training so far. We are going to set up our National Judicial Academy and we would need their experience in this regard.
