The bee boxes were set up across all seven upazilas of the district by 22 honey collectors. Honey collector Md Nayem, hailing from Faridpur district, said he set up 250 bee boxes in the Kazaikata area of Melandaha upazila. Honey businessman Md Selim Hossain said there is high demand for mustard honey, but inclement weather has discouraged collectors. Monira Yesmin, a primary school head teacher, said she purchased mustard honey directly from collectors at Tk 300 per kilogram.

JAMALPUR, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) – Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two drug peddlers along with a large quantity of Indian-made liquor in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district this morning. RAB-14 in Jamalpur said in a press briefing that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in the Baromari Mission Battola area of Nalitabari upazila and arrested Md Shamim Ahmed, 20, and Md Samidul Islam, residents of the upazila. The RAB members recovered 369 bottles of liquor and a motorcycle from their possession. A case was filed with Nalitabari Police Station in this connection.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 to a venue outside India. The showpiece tournament is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. “An emergency meeting of the Board of Directors of the BCB was held this afternoon to discuss recent developments related to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka,” the release said. Bangladesh, placed in Group C alongside West Indies, England, Nepal and Italy, is scheduled to play all its group matches in Kolkata and Mumbai. “In light of this decision, the BCB has formally requested the ICC, as the event authority, to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches to a venue outside India,” the release further said.

"The next election is vital not only for the BNP but for the whole nation. The Election Commission has declared 1,842 candidates valid while 723 others invalid for the country’s 300 constituencies as the five-day scrutiny process of nomination papers ended on Sunday. During the scrutiny started on December 30, the returning officers accepted the nomination papers of 1,842 contestants and rejected that of 723 others, according to the statistics of the Election Commission. Besides, the scrutiny process ended without the examination of three nomination papers of late BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, submitted in Feni-1, Bogura-7 and Dinajpur-3 constituencies. Earlier, a total of 2,568 aspirants submitted nomination papers in the 300 constituencies within the deadline of December 29 last to contest the 13th parliamentary election.

The Department of Consumer Rights has imposed fines totaling Tk 2 lakh on three traders in Tangail for selling gas cylinders above the government-regulated price. The action was taken during a drive conducted by Asaduzzaman Rumel, Assistant Director of the District Consumer Rights Department, at Garasin Bazar in Sadar upazila on Sunday morning. According to the official, Zaman Traders was fined Tk 50,000, Asma Traders of Kumulli Bazar Tk 100,000, and Azad Traders of Kortia Bazar Tk 50,000 for selling gas cylinders without proper sales receipts and charging higher-than-permitted prices. The drive was carried out with the participation of Sadar Upazila Sanitary Inspector Sahida Akhter, Abu Zubair Ujjal, General Secretary of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) District Branch, as well as members of the Bangladesh Army and Police. The department urged all traders to follow government-set pricing rules and maintain proper sales documentation to avoid penalties.
